celica st202 airbag q

Have a 96 celica which has a large crack in the bumper, which iam wanting to remove to have plastic welded and re-painted. Are there any extra precautions i should take in relation to the air bag sensors when i remove the bumper? dont want to upset anything but im unsure if its going to matter really.

any advice appreciated

You should be alright but if you want to be safe disconnect battery negative terminal and wait for 90sec for the backup capacitors to discharge.

cool, yeah i might do that. Where are these sensors exaxtly an what do they look like? are they easy to damage whilst removing the bumper? i also noticed the metal bumper iorn has been bent too, (car hit a tow bar at low speed)

sensors are bolted to the chassis rail they will be square and have a yellow plug attached. anything with yellow plugs and or loom is the airbag circuits. You wont damage them during a bumper removal and refit

Unless you intend on driving into a wall to remove the bumper i'm sure you'll be sweet
