As for just fitting the head gasket, i noticed a big improvement with my engine running the trd 0.8mm gasket, my 16v 4age engine went well before i pulled it apart to freshen it up, went even better after fitting the trd gasket., You'll need to run minimum 95 octane fuel, probably better to use 98 to gain full benefit from it. You'll also need to change your ignition timing to suit as even if 3 degrees the wrong way (advanced or retarded) it may pink. Those are the symptoms of my engine and, it may have had a bit taken off the head previous to me owning it, i can't be 100% sure
