e10 Corolla Engine Conversion?

Postby Phanatic » Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:15 pm

Hey al,

I pulled a 4a-fe out of a toreno. I'm planing to swap my 2e 1.3 motor. The mounts look the same and it should fit but I need help with some other things, like where is the fuel pump on the toreno? Would I need a new wiring loom or will it just plug into my old one? I know a bit about cars but this is my first engine swap. Can anyone give tips or let me know about any problems I might run into?

Thanks
Shane

toreno?? what the hell is that? Sounds like that honda accord. Trueno? Fuel pump is usually in the fuel tank start by checking there first. Lift up the back seat and there should be access that way. Loom im not sure but im guessing NO, ull have to use the 4afe loom.

Cambelt side (drivers side) engine mount will not line up. A series engine mount sits further forward iirc by around 50mm

torino = ford
terrano = nissan
torana = holden
trueno = toyota
nfi what a toreno is

as stated, E engine mounts are different on the camblet end
so you need to weld in the A series mount
you will also need to cert it all

also as mentioned the pump is in the tank, not sure if you can get to it under the seat though....

and no, the wiring will not plug in
you will need the engine loom and ecu from the 4afe and wire it into your car. if the 2E is carb you will also need to add in some fuel lines

Common, a 4a engine in a honda.. lol
Its not that hard to work out

Fuel pumps in the tank
On the 2e its on the engine

Its not as easy as some people think to convert a carby to efi
But good luck with your project

Sorry about my bad spelling.lol

Urm i ended up finding out that the mounts don't fit the hard way but I dropped the engine in and I'm just sorting the little things like the all the piping ect. I'm going to attempt doing the wiring myself but if I get stuck where would be the cheapest and best place to go?

And another thing cant I just get a aftermarket fuel pump?

Thanks allot for all you help guys I appreciate it.

Dude, just look on TM for a 4AGE, they're cheap as hell and will actually bolt right in, and give you roughly twice the power of a 2E.

It wont bolt right in, it will need the same mount mods as 4AFE. But I agree, Why go to all the trouble of changing mounts, wiring, fuelling etc just to have a 4AFE? 4AGE will need the same amount of work and give you a much better result.

He has a car with a 4A-FE in it and he wants to remove the 4A-FE and replace it with a 2E......which leads to my original question - why?

i read it as he has a 2e powered car, and wants to put in a 4afe out of a trueno
nothing at all wrong with a 4afe for a daily driver
especially if you dont like revving things all the time

can you please clarify the following:

what is the car
what is the engine you are putting IN

and as for the wiring.... well it depends on the above two questions

and what did you do about the mounts?

Ok so...
I'm putting in a 4afe because I got it for $300. I've got the engine in all I need to do now is sort the wireing loom and im sused. She won't be amazingly powerfull but she'll do the job. Besides it'l be put out heaps more power than 2e.

Where can I do my wireing?

im interested to know what you did for the mount....

well, you could ring around some auto sparkys

or get hold of wiring diagrams for both cars and work out how to do it...

I'm pulling one out from a corolla with a standard 4afe. If that doesn't work I was told to take it to a panel beater to weld it in because its a structural weld.
I took the wiring loom from that corolla too and everything plugged right in besides one open spot on the ecu. I tried turning her over and a spark jumped from the distributor and then nothing. The loom was a bit wet though so I'm planning to use a shit load of crc and retrace my steps to see if I didn't screw anything up. I also changed all the fuses.

If it doesn't run its out of my hands all I can do is take it to a auto sparky and just pay my arse off...

Hopefully it'll all be worth it but I'm starting to doubt that. :cry:

Hey guys...

I finally got her running. Everything is sussed besides my break peddle
that is really solid for some reason I'm hoping its something simple like
the vacuum hoses that i didnt connect.

I still have a problem with the driver side mount... What do I do?
I'm not to keen to weld it in. Does anyone know if I'll still be able to get a
cert if a drill holes through the boxed section of the body and put long bolts all the way through?
