Fxgt Auto probs - ANYONE? COMMON PEOPLE

Postby CelicaGT8 » Sat May 02, 2009 8:32 pm

AE101 FXGT, Auto will when put in drive will start in 1st then change to 4th.
Even if you floor it it will rev to 4500 then change to 4th
If you put it in 1st it will rev to 7000 then you can change it into 2nd (on the stick) and it will change into 3rd.

Basically it just wont get 2nd and wont use 3rd unless you put it into 2nd lol.

Any ideas?

Change the fluid for a start. If that doesn't fix it put a manual box in it.
See ya

Try new fluid and filter, well see what cokour your fluid is that comes out of it. If you have lots and lots of nice silvery film mixed with your fluid chances are the trans is kaput. But you could surprise yourself and fit the parts and actually have second and third

I stressed hardcore when my KE70 started doing that (and hunting for gears while cruising). Had $&#$% fluid in it cause of a leaking hose.

Yes congrats, you picked up on that one. Bit of a late night and long day at work doesn't help things

how does the kickdown cable affect how it shifts up gears?

can you select 2nd and third off the stick without the 7k rpm carry on? does it drive normally in those gears when they are selected?

unless the fluid is low as AE86less mentioned, i doubt changing it is going to do jack. and will probably cost the same as a secondhand trans. (who wants autos right)

it sounds like a valvebody problem to me

strange for toyota trans to fail though!

Im not a fan of autos at all, but it was cheap and i was roadcarless,
It has never been in 2nd sinc iv had it, it will go into 3rd if you put it in 2nd on the stick, lol

If you try to drive it normaly, it will just go from 1st to 4th when 1st gets to 4500rpm, or less, depending on your foot.

Fluid looks clean and is on the cold full mark when cold.

Excel cable is good, kickdown tells the auto what position the excel is in. so it can change up when you floor it depending on rpm

Im so not going to change the box haha, it achually drives quite well... BUY IT!
