Boy racer car crushing legislation

I think alot of these rule changes seems to be bull. But in saying that if your car is legal and your driving is within the law then you should be fine?

+1 for 2 years instead of 4.

As for the drunk driving thing thats crap. people that drink drive (i'm not meaning those who have a drink with a meal but those who consuse a lot then drive) are idiots.

Would rather see alternatives to crushing, which is just destructive for no good reason. The people that street race and get caught often enough to have their car crushed..those people are too thick to get the picture, and will just go and buy another car. Or run from the cops (forgetting the fact police would already have thier rego number and will just come knocking the next day).

By putting people in a position that makes 'chancing it' by running an option in their eyes, just puts the public at risk. Instead of some guy doing burnouts you now have some guy doing 90 in a 50 zone etc.

Alternatives to crushing could include:
- car confiscated and sold at auction, sale money goes to victims of street racing/drink drivers. Cars would not be sold to associates of the original drivers and may not be financed to purchase at auction.

- street racing results in loss of license, car confiscated on the spot and sold or parted out. if you are caught driving during the period you are unlicensed then you receive a heavy fine+extension to unlicensed period. If you are caught street racing, speeding or driving recklessly during the unlicensed period then you receive jail time.

and? Who cares what happens to the car after it gets sold, as long as they had to pay money for it? chances are, itll be up for 'sale' again in the future anyway.

I say impound and sell the car at auction, then give the money to a charity or something.

I say instead of crushing - make them go round a track in the wet as fast as they can without seat belts

I think there was a comment last night that street racing contributes 10 deaths a year to the road toll. Isn't that something like 5-10% of the road toll? Thats alot of hype for someting that is quite small in perspective to the overall scenario? (again don't think its right people doing illegall street racing, burn outs in town etc though)

Please. The asshats causing the problems are the ones who will hardly care if their POS gets crushed - in fact it'll probably be fun for them to watch the crusher in action. They'll just go get another one the next day.
