4agze idle problem

Postby soven » Sat May 30, 2009 6:43 pm

aw11 rebuilt engine running bluetop cams and adjustable cam gears.

I have idle problems :? . The car starts fine but is a bit hesitant(takes a few seconds).

I can get it to idle around 1200 rpm and nothing lower. Turning the air adjustment screw on the throttle body will lower the idle below 1200rpm but the car will stall.

It idles rough, the exhaust sputters while idling.

From time to time, the car will stall if i cruise to a stop with the clutch disengaged. Happens almost all the time if I have the aircon on, I can stop it stalling by engaging the clutch to bring rpm back up.

I have cleaned iscv valve , throttle body, adjusted tps, test injectors(new seals), new rotor arm and cap, new ignition leads, ignition timing correct. It is not using water and there are no fault codes. What else? I do not know what valve timings are set at for the adjustable cam gears(not done by me), i think it is advanced from memory... could that be the cause?

Yeah... sounds like the cam timing is off... too much overlap, so you
don't have decent vacuum at idle. Get the cam timing set back to
standard and you should be sweet.

:? I took off timing belt cover and it doesnt seem to be a simple bolts off and on job. Don't see any marks on the adjustable cam gears.

Anyone in Auckland keen to dial in the cams for me? Some extra $$ to spend on Queen's Birthday night?

Let me know, I am in Pakuranga.

is it on standard cams?

If so put standard cam wheels back on it.
