So you're saying you cant get good economy from an aftermarket efi system?????? I suggest you find a better tuner IF you've ever had an aftermarket efi system in your car. Because the tune is the only thing stopping you from getting good economy. to say what you said above, is a crock of sh1t!!!!!

Agreeed a tune is only as good as the person laying the map down

ECU's imo are all pretty much the same, choose one that the tuner knows well and then best results will follow

greedy e-manage ultimate if its a road car with some mods.
standalone if your aim is all out power and economy is no issue

why say that adrain? only cause you couldnt tune yours to suit your needs? or are there other reasons?
emanage doesnt even come close to the map ecu or map ecu II for features etc

steve murch and my unlce designed the map ecu one and two and put many many yrs into r and d, before releasing the 1st one

i had the 1st gen map ecu in my gtz, mad good power out of a real crap tune, but never got around to giving it a true tune, and sold the car after wards, and in a months time after my track day i will be running a 2nd gen map ecu 2 in my jzx100

nothing wrong with a link but i fail to see links in any other markets bar nz? were as these have real good support here in nz ( same with links )and japan ( real big here atm ) usa and britan

dude from driven performance i think still runs with the 1st gen map ecu on his insane little diahatsu charade

but any more info contact both steve and my uncle through the map ecu forum

p.s im not trying to throw a free plug out there to say hey these are the best etc etc

I prefer haltech ecus cause they are what i know. I have used them in every engine conversion i have done, I tuned the one in my 2JZ surf by driving to auckland to watch the targa, and I tuned while a friend drove. I was able to get the cruising zones spot on and could get nearly 30Mpg out of it. Get either a) what you know and can tune, or b) what your nearest workshop knows and tunes. because having someone who knows your ecu is THE most important thing

100% corret the ecu is only as good as the person who use's it, so choose an ecu you know how to use, or that the person tuning you car is confident in working with

Again its a support thing

Links get awsome support in NZ, but are begining to build an international reputation now, have notice a few Japanese cars are running links now

But again it come down to what the tuner is confident with hence the reason most japanese cars have power fc or f-con

heh @ all the haters, I don't give a $&#$% about economy hence my cam size.
but most aftermarkets iv seen have been only setup for power...

And my map ecu comment is just on my experience with a gen1 item... it failed to let the laptop connect, and then when it did it wouldn't let you save changes made.

With most aftermarket ecu's they should have a table switching input so you can have a power tune and an economy tune.

Seeing as not many people are answering your ACTUAL question -

You should find a tuner who you like or have heard good things about.
Then talk to them about your options. This is the best way to do things. They should have a large range of options for you. They can work out exactly what you need.

Personally i would Recommend Carl Ruiterman at E & H Motors in Pukekohe. He has tuned and worked on alot of high profile cars, no job too big or too small.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Figure out what you want out of the car
Work out a budget that you're willing to devote to it
Find a good tuner that has worked with other cars of the type with good results and talk to them about options that suit your budget and goals for the car

ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE DONE THE ABOVE will you be able to make an informed decision about what ecu to go with. After all is said and done, an ECU is nothing but a collection of circuits. Regardless of what brand/model you get they ALL do the same basic job (additional features my vary but they ALL work on the same principles) how well it does it's job is completely dependent on who gives it instructions. Find a good tuner and use the ECU that he/she has experience and good results with

That's the point I'm trying to get across to you. It all depends on who's going to tune it. There's no point buying an $800 ecu if you can't find someone that knows how to tune them well...

Then you're $1300+ out of pocket and you have a car that is neither powerful nor economical. For the same money you could have got a link/haltech/fcon etc and had it tuned by someone that is experienced with them and have a car that is both powerful and economical...

It ALL depends on your tuner. Talk to them first and THEN decide what ecu to use. The only person that can tell you what is the best "bang for buck" is your tuner. People think the ecu is the most important factor in a situation like this but it's actually the tuner that you should be focussing more attention on. Even a cheap SAFC in the right hands will give you good power and reliability at the end of the day

no such thing as a power and economy tune, one tune should do both.
my old ep82 starlet i could drive to meremere pull a high 11' sec pass. then fill the tank on the north shore on the way home drive over 200km home and still have 2/3 or more of tank of gas. all on the same tune. this was on an old g1 link plus btw

getting the wot tune spot on is easyer than getting the fuel economy side of it spot on.
