20v VVT pully information

Hey,

Iv searched through the forums for the 20v VVt pully problems.

My car makes a weird noise when it idles, also a "subaru" type sound when it has little oil in it.

Also at 3k revs it makes a yuck sound, and sounds like a cat being strangled from the exhaust, is this just the VVT sound.

Also whats the bad point in having a worn VVT pully, is there a performance decrease? or will it use more oil / or petrol?

Any info would be good, i havent found much searching, have searched google too, i may be using the wrong termanolodgy though.

I'm not going to comment on the VVT, but running any 20v low on oil is asking for trouble

Its pretty hard to diagnose noises over the net dude. AFAIK, the only downside with a nosiy VVT pulley is the noise, doesnt appear to make any peformance difference.

When my 20V pulley crapped out, it sounded like a diesel at idle.

Do the test, with your car at idle, take the plug off and apply 12V to the oil solenoid. The noise should stop.. this means that your pulley is buggered. Other than that, perhaps open the diagnostic box in the engine bay, bridge E1 and TE1, turn the key to acc (don't turn the car on) and the check engine light on the dash will flash, just hunt around on the net for the codes.
