is this price fair?

Postby doublezero » Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:04 pm

Hey guys,

I have got LSD, Flywheel and clutch to be installed on my 2zz-ge corolla front wheel drive.

The gearbox factory quoted me $550 plus GST. And the he also says it will costs more if its not straight forward.

Is this a fair price?

Thanks.

Best way to tell is to get 2 other quotes from other establishments. Then compare the quotes

Sounds like a fair price to me given whats involved.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Sounds pretty good, installing an LSD involves opening up the gearbox, which can be quite time consuming and probably cost you all of that without the clutch and flywheel install.

You won't know till you ask them

You never know, the fact they work on Toyotas day in day out could mean they can do it faster.

$550 is pretty reasonable if you ask me, as mentioned installing an LSD is not a short job

Ok I just got back from toyota. They quoted me $1500 plus GST. She said it would be a 15 hour job.

Did you clarify that the car was FWD and had a transaxle? That's dirt cheap for what's involved and you'll probably find that he'll charge you double that amount once he realises that it's "not straightfoward"

Get it in writing if you can  then he has no choice but to charge you the quoted price.

Yeah thats a rather large loop hole 8O.

Did you take the car in so they could see it? I'd ask for a proper quote as you "have to save up" so need a FIRM figure 8)

sounds like he trying to keep it open for increases.
they are allowed to charge a certain percentage over a quote (i think its 10%) but by saying that he's making it a bit open

Yeah I told him its a front wheel drive and that he has to take the box out.

I believe that actual prices can vary from 10-15% from quotes. Anyone here dealt with the gearbox factory?
