How Many People Here Do Some Sort Of Racing?

Postby celica_xr9145 » Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:04 am

So how many people here do some sort of racing as in track days, rallying, etc, just having fun thrashing your car around some sort of track.

Its something i'd like to start in the future and just wondered how many people take there car to track days or whatnot.

I have a burnout car for burnout competitions. Not so much racing though although I may try drifting one day :D

Working to a budget - ive found it easier to register my car and drive it to and from meets instead of a trailer, but am soon going to be down to the race car (daily/track) as i have no need for rear seats etc and its more expensive to insure/register/wof 2 cars than use the whore for everything

thats not a bad idea, i was thinking of getting an LSD for my celica and taking it to track days and still keeping it road legal.
Only thing is i cant find a track in dunedin so would have to drive it back if it got damaged

Moral - dont crash

Make sure if your buying a car to race that its registered first. Compliance is enough to make you cry (Least you know your car is safe after though)

I've got my gokart. Haven't raced it at any events yet, but plan on it :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I do track days. And trailer my car there. It cost more on the gas for the van and towing the trailer is boring as....BUT! Its a looooong way to go if I break my car at the track and I didn't trailer it.
And I always break something. Not by crashing though(Its OLD).
Being road legal is the shiz nizzle for testing changes and reliability testing

every car I have owned in recent times has been entered in at least 1 motosport event, Have a dedicated car for motorsport use which has about a 10th of the power of the road car and have just had a roll cage built so I can go rallying in it - has been about 5 years in the pipeline

Nope, the most i've done is grass event / drag days.

I just don't want to show everyone else up really. That and the fact my project cars don't actually go and are older than I am

At Taupo and Pukekohe at least, there are trackdays you can enter where you pretty much just need a helmet and overalls, sometimes a fire extinguisher.

Awesome fun, and definitely addictive!

Heaps of fun and learning car control, to be had in a standard street car.

Current daily is my car set up for track fully road legal as well. Not the most comfortable daily with no interior and a custom gearbox but since an injury 13 years ago has ment no racing I may as well use it. Good news is I'ce finally found someone who can fix my injury so all going well I'll be back at Manfeild next year to race instead of spectate and marshall :D
