what sump do you have? there is a few to choose from. my mates hilux uz sits quite nice as it is. bonnet close has about 2 inch clearance.
i'll find out if its the front sump model as that would make sense and fitting easier.
yeah, as mentioned there are 3 to choose from.
otherwise id use the sump you have and get that modified to suit, but thats alot of work.
while you are at it, id look at getting the sump at least winged, if not extra baffling. seems people are running the bearings on the 1uz's probably due to insufficent oil and baffling.
check out my build thread to see what we did to my sump..
its a front sump.
looks as tho the rear could be cut and flipped and re-welded,
may just make up a new one, would ally be better than stainless for heat distribution?
cheers for opinions

alloy will crack next to the welds if you hit something.
steel will bend and hopefully save you from oil loss.
i;m just using mild steel same to the sump.
haha fair enough,
looks like starting from scratch will be the easiest option.
What would you suggest regarding baffles, plates down the centre wth holes or solid plates going from one end to the other with a gap, kind of like a maze?
Cheers

sorry deaf rattle, i did check out your thread on your build just forgot to mention it. you didnt really coment on what u did on the sump, but looks good. 1UZ sumps are a little different to the older style but its all relative i guess
Will be getting an outline of the original sump mountings and going from there.
Cheers guys

I don't really see how that sump would stop oil surge. Having the hinges there... its just like not having the wings on the side, its mainly for more oil so it can just recirculate back around in the sump.
But isnt the problem oil surge? you need horizontal baffles to stop that.
At present if you turn a long corner hard the oil will just ride up the side of the sump, or backwards etc.
maybe if you roll the car, but i dont plan on doing that.
if i do, oil will probably be the least of my worries.
i know what you mean and i did think about that. could always put something in like that later, but i dont think thats as important as extra capacity and the hinges we have put in.
