In: 244deg, 8.5mm lift
Ex: 244deg, 8.5mm lift

3SGTE (225ps):
In: 236deg, 8.2mm lift
Ex: 236deg, 8.2mm lift

Gen3
3SGE A/T (170ps):
In: 240deg, 8.7mm lift
Ex: 240deg, 8.2mm lift

3SGE M/T (180ps):
In: 252deg, 9.8mm lift
Ex: 240deg, 8.2mm lift

3SGTE (245ps):

Ex: 236deg, 8.2mm lift

Gen 3 uses a shim under bucket setup so to use Gen3 cams in a Gen 2 you need to convert to shim under bucket or go shimless altogether by using MR-S shimless buckets (good thing to have on the to-do list if you're after revs). You can't use Gen1 (ST165) cams in later heads - they are a different setup altogether (later cams have better specs anyway)

While I agree that under-bucket shims are better you don't have to do that just because you use a Gen III cam.

Also shimless buckets offer only marginal weight advantage (about 2-3gms IIRC) over the Gen III under-bucket setup, so unless you're converting from a Gen II system there's nothing really to be gained from going to the hassle of using a shimless bucket.

Of course they can be used, just the same as most HKS cams can be used, there's no difference in the basic design that requires the use of under-bucket shims.

There is a clearance issue related to high lift HKS cams which requires some machining of the Gen II head, but the rest of the valve train will still work. However in this case it would be advisable to change to an under-bucket/shimless setup as the likelyhood of spitting a shim out increases with increasing lift/acceleration ramp of the cam lobes.

Are you 100% on those specs????
I have measured inlet and exhuast cams from 2nd gen 3SGE, 3rd gen a/t 3SGE and 3/4th gen 3SGTE and all have 8.6mm lift

I'm 100% certain on the M/T Gen3 3SGE and Gen2 3SGTE specs as I've measured both and they were exactly as stated. Can't say on the rest as they're from the internet so should be taken with a grain of salt.

Your measurements are only +/- 0.1mm for each of the engines you measured so sounds about right. Did you use verniers/micrometer to measure them?
