AE111 heater issue (96Carib)

Postby Dopamean » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:19 pm

Hi Guys,

I strongly suggest moving this collection of information to a new forum with a search function that works.

^my explanation for probably posting on a topic that has been covered, I can hardly ever find things from searching here :P

Anyways,
My heater recently start to act weird, it will go then there's a click and it will fluctuate fan speed and eventually stop.
Hot / Cold works fine, just it will cut out nearly all the time.

You can switch it on full tit and it will run nearly 85% of the time but you can still hear the fanfluctuating a bit.
As it's winter this effect's my foggy windows :)
Can anyone advise, I'm wondering if this is a common fault, like a voltage regulator has failed or something and needs to be replaced?
Hmm....

Search works fine tbh. Just have to think what other titles people may have posted the same problem under.

My AC board in my AE111 had some issues, when I got my aircon regassed they fixed that at the same time so it COULD be a problem with the main board.

Yeah the AE101 had the A/C Power transistor as a common fault wondering if theres something along the same lines for the AE111.

On the search function, unfortunately its a massive sift each time I try looking for something but then again I may just be dyslexic.

I had similar issues before, problem solved when I replace the console control. Try that as a last resort.

Yeah took my lunch time to go to Cool Car on Commercial street (Grey Lynn).

Fairly reasonable price if not pessimistic about how long it would take them to correct the fault.

They checked it for free, So I've learned all you need to fix this problem is a multi meter.
Possible faults: Fan (Bushes) / Voltage resistor(Same as the AE101 common fault) or its the console.

In my case its the console, they want to charge $70 labour which I don't think is unreasonable, try and fix mine and if not replace.

Thanks for your input again, hope someone can gain from this post :)
I'm not knocking the forum in any way but there are better search engines inside forums than this one :P

Most times full speed is relay controlled, nothing to do with the fan speed controller,

and if it's fluctuating on high speed, it's normally the fan motor brushes.

Get a s/h or new one as most of the time when the brushes are worn out,
the armature is just as worn, and it just means you spend more time/money stripping down the old one and inspecting it to find it is not repairable.
