Non Toyota issue....

Postby Mr Revhead » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:19 pm

Vauxhall chevette! :o

Is making a sound horribly like a dodgy hydraulic lifter..... cept afaik they dont have those.....

Anyone had anything to do with these and had a similar issue?
I see they have oil gallerys in the pushrods for the rockers, maybe one is blocked?

hope not!

havn't taken the cover off yet, trying to get an idea of what to look for before I do.

It really does sound like a lifter, to the point of getting a bit quieter when its good and hot.

My uncle has a mate who has one, and I believe they can have problems with starvation of oil to the cam.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

most of the stuff will be close anyway maybe just a cheap set of ring and open enders and a socket set that pretty much will do everything in a english car

the early sign of a big-end, although noise should get worse when hot... maybe drain the oil and have a good look for shiny stuff?
current cars:
Evo 4 230Kw atw
1971 mini.
79 bugeye 245kw atw.
Evo powered mx5 under construction

Mk2's were worse than that cos some of the stuff was carryover and some was new,
carryover =imperial
new = metric.

i find in most cases the only time you really NEED imperial tools are for the small stuff - 3/8 and under.

sometimes for an extra tight bolt or w/e having the exact right size is nice, but yeah.

ps - leons suggestion is best :D
