caldina rattle

Postby bbq1988 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 12:03 am

Hey guys,

my wagon has started to have abit of a rattle, only happens when you are crusing around 3000rpm and have been driving for 10km's or more.

i removed the turbo heat shield as it was stuffed, this fixed most of the problem but not all of it.

some one suggested that it could be detonating, but i dont see why as it is always run on 98+ and the sound goes away under load/boost.

anyone had this problem?

Is that for manifold and turbo? They're one piece...

FWIW my leaky manifold sounded like a rattle/squeaky belt, not your usual truck noise. You need to shine a torch into the corner behind the alternator to look for soot, it's not readily apparent unless it's been leaking for a long time.

btw a good leak test is to put a bit of water (spit works better) on suspected aerier (wen cod for oblivious reasons) and start it up and look for bubbles

if you catch them early enough, you can get the manifold face skimmed and it'll be good for a few years again.
