Yes, rear shocks are different between prefacelift and facelift.
Cobra springs list springs to suit 1984 - 1989 so I'd say you can swap springs between models.

Er no, Shocks are different.
Springs are interchangeable.

In fact I can say the springs do work, I pulled a set of king springs from a prefacelift car at pick a part and it had one prefacelift and one facelift rear shock.

The springs fitted up fine in both, the difference in the shocks is the diameter of the housings, the facelifts are larger and have different inserts.

yes springs definitely the same
shock fitment is the same as well
ie shocks from late car will fit early and vice versa

Are the springs the same rate though?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I do. Why the hell would you take a car that handles so well and then ruin it all so you can give yourself head while trying to exit the car?

Also are you talking the individual components, or are you talking the struts as a whole? Facelift front struts have an extra stud in the top hat, but if you're putting older ones into a newer car then that won't be a problem. Rear struts aren't interchangable IIRC, they bolt onto the rear hubs differently I think.

The rears will bolt up to either.
Like I said I pulled a car at pickapart to bits and it had one facelift and one prefacelift rear shock in it (as in the entire assembly)

the front tophats have one extra stud on the front, the other 3 are in the same place for both pre and facelift.

knock out the extra stud

spring fitment is the same for all, no idea if stock springs all the same rate, but I doubt it

Dragger, coz you want to make it handle even BETTER! :D
you only ruin it if you don't know what your doing. which is 90% of ppl in nz

and top hat is not part of the strut
its a separate part

However facelift shock inserts won't fit into pre-facelift shock cases but you can fit AE101 front cases with facelift shocks into the rear.
See ya
