AE111 Levin Auto Petrol Guzzler

Postby Subway » Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:37 pm

Weird issue, my car is using a shit load of petrol these days, way more than usual. Its now getting maybe 350km to a 40L tank (currently sitting just about 1/4 and only done 300km), where it used to get well over 400km around town, and on the open road it struggles to get 450km to a tank where it would normally happily get well over 500km.

I haven't done an oil change in a wee while, could this be the problem? or is it likely to be a dodge o2 sensor....

Been doing a little bit of research and it seems people opt for the Bosch universal 4 wire o2 sensor over the Toyota OEM, who sells Bosch in NZ?

From memory, you will need a custom flange made up or something. The bosch and NGK ones are screw type, while the factory is a bolt on one.

Apart from that, assuming you know how to wire and solder, its a relatively easy job to do.

have you thought about doing the simple stuff first....

when were the plugs last replaced?
what are the HT leads like condition wise?

highly likely it could be one or both of those causing the problem and the up shot is if it isnt then it will have been good practice to service those anyway before you run out and blow money on an 02 sensor

most places could get the sensor id say.
You dont need to solder the wires they come with a screw together clamp(as solder melts with the ex heat)

Id just leave the old sensor in to block up the hole then drill a hole close by and weld the right size nut over it so the 02 just screws in.

From mem bosch ones are around 100-140 area retail
