rims are a little scuffed up. everything else new.
2.0 FSI turbo model 6 speed manual FWD
$33,000 (maybe 29,000)

i love the toyota but the power of the GTI is just massive and fun,

IF you need a four door for carrying extra passengers all the time I would say it will get pretty frustrating after a while with the golf, at least with the caldina even after you have loaded everyone up there is still a load of space to chuck your gear

I'm guessing shes a drive from A to B type? I'd probably feel better with her in a 4WD. Although the VW would probably be fine, although non driving enthusiest chicks prefer auto's to manuals.

Of course, I don't know what your GF is like, so if shes a person who loves driving, then probably the Golf will offer a greater driving experience

Yes, but its new enough and low enough KM's that I doubt you would be seeing to many of those issues for a few years. Mum had a 95 Golf 1.8. Was nothing special but was reliable enough, except for missing a tooth on the reverse ideler. (Apprently common issue)

They are the bees knees baby. Took one out for a spin when mum was looking for a new car. Had a DSG box too. Was an extreamly fun car all around.

Sergei is correct they are slow plastic piles of junk STAY toyota.

Mind you I must only see the bad examples and there are $&#$% loads of bad examples.

If you do buy a VW pm me I can always do with some extra window regulator sales.

edit: just looked at the pic the golf5's arent sooo bad still have thier problems such as window reg's ,fuelpumps and control units ($$$).

my last bmw seemed to hold up quite well compared to the ae111 she has now.

that gti is most certainly not gutless. who ever modded it did a very good job. the Remus exhaust system is so nice and looks very unrestricted.
i cant find out what the upgraded chip business is about but from reading euro forums its just a slight boost limit increase.

what can i say about Toyota that everyone here already knows.
i like the towing option, it looks so safe, is a lot cheaper in every way,
if she rights it off i can buy back and rip the engine out
long trips in it will be great.

just to give you a hint of what shes like. other cars she wanted is evox, 350z, MRS, bmw 330ci, Audi TT, as you can see these where off the list straight away. being two door. except the bmw. but i don't want another bim. I'm losing sleep over this, as you can see from the post time.

+1, awesome cars those TFSI Golfs. Id have to go for the caldina for practical reasons, plus the interiors on ST246's are really nice.
Not to sure about that colour though

I'd go for the golf, and make the car yard get the rims fixed as a condition of sale.

Turbo 2.0L Golf is SLOW.
It feels like diesel, I have driven plenty of them and they run out of breath at about 5krpm.
Although it might be quicker than a 20v (toyota one).
Some people chip them and claim huge power, but I am sceptical as the turbo used on it is very tiny (although I think it is variable vane).

The only thing that more or less of decent performance from VW was Golf R32.
I had driven it extensively and I still would say it is slower than a regular ST205 GT4. The transmission department felt soft and fragile.

I have driven turbo Golfs, VR6 golfs, they are ok for performance, but nothing exciting, in fact they are very bland. I also driven 16V GTI (older) and 20V GTI (N/A) and they are very boring. While the 2.0 8V jobbie was piss poor.

If you are getting euro, get a diesel. I haven't driven any diesel (very difficult to import from Japan) but newer ones are pretty good.

Also watch out for plastic bits on the motor, for example dip stick tube will disintegrate in your hands if you touch it, the inlet hoses split, the thermostat housing cracks etc.

For every single golf we had (when I worked for importer) we had a shopping list of parts for Qualitat. Although some parts are relatively cheap (like door lock that almost every single one has broken) some are very expensive (ECU units and such).
