cambelt directional query

Postby bluemaumau » Wed Jul 29, 2009 4:47 pm

when you are putting on a cambelt does it matter which way it goes on?

my mate asked me today, and dont think ive ever noticed any markings or anything.

his motor is a RB20det if it makes any diff.

hopefully the 4age is the right way if they are directional....

Some brands will have direction, some will not.
I don't believe toyota 4AGE cambelt does have a direction.
If it would it would have arrows pointing which way it supposed to rotate.

Genuine Toyota cambelts are fitted with the writing facing the engine, so if you were standing in front of the engine, the writing would be upside down.
Ive always fitted aftermarket belts with the writing facing me.

the direction doesnt generally matter. they are constructed evenly. the direction markings are more-so for if/when u remove the belt and re-fit it (for sum stupid reason people ACTUALLY do that, for the price of a friggin belt u might as well put a new 1 on while you have it off) you fit it the same way it was.

Havnt heard that one?
Genuine belts can be fitted either way round ( new belt )
But if you have removed a used belt and are refitting it needs to be installed the same way as when it was removed otherwise noise can occur
