Some douche spilt a milkshake in my car on Friday, all through the passenger foot well.

We thought we got it all cleaned up and chucked some chemicals on there but over tee past couple of days, there is something still there cause the milk has gone off and the smell is gettign pretty nauseating and unbearable.

Any suggestions on getting rid of this smell? Does it involve getting the likes of a rug doctor or something to pull it out of the carpet?

Tried boiling water + lots of towels?

Tried friend for carpets? Worked for me on something worse than milk. Took a few applications though...

If it was me doing it I would remove the carpet from the car, clean the passengers foot well to remove any possible residue that might have soaked through & give the carpets a really good shampoo or steam clean.

Nothing worse than going to all the trouble of cleaning the carpets in the car to only find there has been some seep through between the carpet & foot well

One trick we use to use in retail when fridges were returned & stank was placing a bowl with vanilla essence in it inside the fridge over night or for a couple of days after cleaning them, works a treat to remove smells that have seeped in to it, might also work for you

Right, got deodorizer & air fresheners under the seat and shake & vac sitting on the carpet at the moment. Will give it a few treatments of that and hope that helps it.

On the plus side my car now does smell citrus-ey fresh :lol:

Boiling water works pretty well.
Steam is even better, it dilutes any milk residue.
I had a similar problem and I used the steam wallpaper remover, worked a treat.

Baking soda man. Or caustic soda. Its what I use indoors and on my car carpets. Has worked from everything from dog poo to wine to throw up. Never tried on milk though sorry

careful with caustic soda, it will burn right through a lot of stuff, including your hands.

Sponge the carpet with warm water and white vinegar, not too much vinegar as it can bleach. Maybe a tablespoon? Bi-carb soda (baking soda), sprinkle it on, leave it overnight then vacuum off. Should be all sweet, worked when my nephew vomited on my lounge suite and his mum didn't clean it up properly...

Vanilla essence works a treat. Gets rid of the most nasty smells (read: rotten fish and chicken).

+1 on baking soda, problem with milk is it conatins casiene, once that bitch is dry its hard to make liquid again and pull out.

Sounds like the surface is clean and whatever has gone through to the foam \ underlay is smelling.

The Shake & Vac has shown where the stain is so now i'm focusing on that area there. Will try the vanilla essence trick and vinegar/baking soda trick as well... Still smells citrusy fresh though

I had the rugdoctor prodcuts, sprayed the hell out of the area then went to BP and used their vaccy to get it out.

problem is how far its soaked through - I did this pretty much immediately.

failing that, get that section of carpet pulled up and soak it? - this is a untested guess. I had an MR2 back in the day that got vomit in it - gave up trying to remove the stench, tried multiple cleaning products without luck.....

perhaps the steam cleaning would be worth a shot?
