caldina spark plug question

Postby speedracer07 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 8:00 pm

hey all, I've recently installed a caldina 3s-gte into my mr2 and want to replace the plugs. I did a search and it seems that most posts have been to go with either Denso or NGK but not into specific's as to which plugs and our dealers here don't know what to recommend (short of pulling one out).

Can anyone confirm that the OEM plugs were either Denso Iridium Spark plug, (PK20R8) or NGK Laser Platinum BKR6ep-8? (I got the part #'s from toyodiy.com

Also I picked up a set of NGK G-Power BKR6EGP plugs (which I believe are one level down from the laser platinum), any thoughts?

Finally, I know for the mr2's at higher than stock boost (anything over 14psi) the popular plugs are the BKR7E's, is there any similar wisdom with using those plugs with the caldina motor?

thanks!!

i dont know the answers,
but when i do stuff like that, i tend to compare with what the st205 guys use. as the engines are closer to the caldina then the mr2 engine.

According to the EPC the plugs are either Denso PK20R8 or NGK BKR6EP-8

NGK Platinums are BKR6EP-8 or BKR6EIX-8 for Iridium

I thought the newer 3sgtes use a different gap spark plug?

These plugs are gapped by the manufacturer at .032 (which is the same as the Mr2). Is that the same for the Caldina?

I wish I had an owners manual, let alone a shop manual!!

Recommended Gap 0.7-0.8mm (.028-.032"), maximum gap 1mm (.039").
