Holset turbos are made by Cummins Turbo Technologies and according to their website they are used on Cummins, Volvo, Iveco, Detroit Diesel, and Scania engines.

Interesting video at http://www.myholsetturbo.com/video.html skip to 2:00mins to avoid all the marketing BS and see what happens when a genuine Turbo fails compared to knock off example.

KABOOOOM!

Far out, thats pretty bad... So bad that you'd almost wonder if they hadn't put like a dab of C4 or something in there to blow it out! Hard to imagine its real!

Not that hard when you consider that at 150,000rpm an 80mm copressor wheel is experiencing 1,000,000g at the outer edge 8O

i would have to say IHI have the best QC turbos on the market
they all have plus's and minuses depending on what your doing and trying to achieve

I remember visiting a customer in Pukekohe who owns a Diesel and Turbo shop down there.
He told me that IHI turbos are fully machine assembled, and when you open up the box, your hands are the first to touch them.

the hx40 in the listing was my friends one until he sold it to the current seller. He couldn't fit in the subby engine bay unless he made some major changes. The physical size was the main issue with it.

Another friend is putting a HX40 on his R30, another is lining up a HX40 up for his R32 and Jonno is putting a HX30 on his new engine in the subby.

Great turbos.. just hard to get into the engine bay unless prepared to do a bit of work lol

You had a prety decent run, You can buy a rebuild kit for under $100.
K27 rebuild kit is what you need.
What size feed were you running to the turbo out of interest?
i am running dash 6 oilfeed, can you do the seals yourself

Very Good its a must see for alot of people who are thinking of buying the cheaper branded turbo's I no if I was to go down this route I'd be staying very close to reputable brand names and with companies with a steeped history in this field.

I too jumped on the chinese turbo bandwagon, My XSPower Turbo lasted around two weeks before the seals went. even though my drain height was at question, a mate had a better quality unit with the drain way lower and he had no issues. When I was looking at turbo options to go with then, there wasnt that much out there about the cheap chinese ones, they were sortof new on the scene.. So my theory was,....why buy one good one?, when you can have 3 chinese ones for the same price!!!. (:

The quality was obviously "not up to scratch", The core on my T3/4 had a turbonectics logo??, which looked like it had been ground off. And the comp wheel looked really cheap, The edges of the blades where not clean, but looked like they where sandblasted!!!, i knew then it wasnt going to last the distance.

Funny enough it flowed enough to make decent power, and lasted a few sessions at masterton with launch control and flatshift backfires lol 8)
However next project, I will be definately looking at a more reliable reputal brand.

Worst what will happen is that your $500 Chinese turbo will ruin your $10000 engine.
