Fuel Pulsation Damper Removal

Postby Leiden » Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:58 pm

I've read about a few Supra owners removing the pulsation damper as it can be a restriction or cause lean conditions when they fail which is what I think is happening to me.

Theres an adjustment screw on the top of it which I have played around with and for a moment got it to run normally without any extra fuel adjustment, unfortunately this didn't last long and its back to needing the extra fuel on the basemap.

Is there any kind of problems I'd expect to see after eliminating it? I've read that it can cause the fuel system to be a little noisier (as if the car isn't noisy anyway) but I can live with that...

I was thinking about just removing it and drilling a hole through the centre shaft (like a banjo bolt) so fuel bypasses the diaphram and goes directly into the fuel rail,

Any thoughts?

only on altezzas i think. cos of the funny one way fuel rail.

if you where to change the fuel system to a conventional style with a return,
then you could remove it.

edit/ just read your post better, its there to prevent surge in the fuel system, to equalize the fuel pressure, its not quite the same to a fpr, where it restricts fuel flow to build pressure.

i don't know if it would restrict fuel flow at all, so you might make it worse.

Ah ok, was thinking of running a return line and having the pressure regulator on the fuel rail like most vehicles

not familiar with supras and what setup they have
but i was under the impression that the dampner is there to do exactly what its name implies
dampen pulses from the incoming fuel to ensure a smooth supply of fuel before it flows through the fuel rail, just like frosts says. note thats different to the fuel regulator

removing it could lead to issues such as inconsistent flow, maybe your issue sis a dud dampner?

Just remove the silly thing. I know heaps of people who have removed them and have had no issues.
