is it possible to get rotors slotted?

Postby sik_gt_starly » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:47 am

Just bought some new brembo front rotors, was under the impression from the sales person they were slotted however upon taking them out of the box they wernt.

They were pretty cheap so im wondering if anyone knows if its possible and or how much it costs to get rotors slotted, also where i could go to get it done.

Have asked around whakatane and no one knows, some saying theres no need to slot the rotors as these will work a charm as they wont warp or anything being good quality

others saying if youre gunna do some track racing you should get them slotted

others saying take rotors back and buy a set that are slotted, i was thinking it may be cheaper to pay to get these slotted as may be cheaper than returning and buying already slotted ones

others saying yes they can be slotted by an engineering place but none know who does it

any help appreciated

it can be done
weather or not you want to do it to your brembos is another question

i done it to my factory rotors on my jzx100 a year and a bit ago, and there fine, as long as they havent been through some hard out heat cycles and are showing signs of fitague ( sp ? ) they should be fine, and im talking about your factory rotors not the brembos

mine have been through four track days, a few " sprited " touge runs and daily driving, and are fine

but race brakes should be able to slot your brembos for you if needed

I'd imagine this would be similar to getting non-crossdrilled rotors crossdrilled, in that it would affect the structural integrity of the rotors. I'm not engineer though, so don't take my word for it :D

Yea... It kinda falls into the same catagory as 'lightening flywheels' for me... I'd much prefer to get things that have been manufactured that way.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Did you get them at 0800 brakes?
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

nope got them from bnt.

phoned 0800brakes but they do not slot rotors, only sell already slotted ones, i have got a quote but a bit out of my price range atm.

0800brakes did say it is possible to slot rotors, just to make sure the engineer knows what they are doing, do not want them to get ruined and shatter etc

Am thinking i will stick with the brembo replacement rotors and match them to some decent pads i can use for a bit of track use in the starlet as i have my cheapy trueno for a daily

I'm assuming they are for an EP82 that you are talking about, what is the car going to be used for?

just put decent pads and use the rotors you bought. you do not need slotted... we run tarmac track cars & rally cars and dont run slotted on any of them.

can you get rotors slotted, yes.

cost, when I bought new willwood disc's, it was $60 extra per disc,
and they got them done somewhere, as they didn't stock the slotted ones.

getting them cross drilled after manufacturing, i'd doubt it.

Amen, Unless you are building a vehicle which will see longish track use, say 5 lap races or longer I wouldn't bother with slotted discs, and then if you're doing a car for that purpose you'd ideally want floating discs anyway.
