Oil filter adaptor bolt...where to get a longer one?

Postby XSVWGN » Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:43 pm

Have spent the day going around wellington looking for a longer fitting. I went to 3 plumbing places and wellington biggest supplier/producer of brass fittings with no luck. The dillema i have is that the current one is about 5mm short to screw my adaptor plate from the remote oil filter relocator

Here are a few pics of the current item. Any one know of somewhere i can get one of these but longer without going to an engineer?

Matt

if you have the right size fitting but just need a longer one, surely some local place could order one in?

I went to a couple of places and they said the one i had was the largest size they couple get. Thought there must be somewhere else in nz (especially Auckland) that would have one

Most Toyota oil filters are 3/4"x16tpi (UNF) thread.

The next question is are both sides exactly the same? Looks to me like the shoulder where the thread terminates is different on each end.

Could you use something like an adaptor the bolts on to the existing connector to extend it?

Then I suggest you go to an engineer as I doub't you'll find anything that will meet your needs off the shelf. They could make one up quite easily and it shouldn't cost that much.

Don't use brass pipe if you want it to hold together, brass will fracture from the vibration. It needs to be steel.

Not that I've ever seen, and the colour of the photo suggests it's steel with baked on oil discolouration. Try a magnet on it to check.
