St185 gt4 fwd (for dyno)

Does anyone know the trick for disengaging the rear diff on a st185 gt4, for dynoing. Or know anyone that's done it before

on the transfer box is a little tab/leaver with a bolt thru it, you need to undo the bolt and move the leaver so it goes thru one of the other holes. I was under the impression it was for diagnostics with a drivtrain issue, not sure if it would handle being dyno'd in those modes.

You cant drive the car in 1st, 2nd or reverse gears if you put it into FF mode.. so it has to be setup at the dyno site in FF mode drove onto the dyno in 3rd gear ( or pushed ) dynoed then taken off and put back to 4wd..

Sounds like alot of work.. i had a tinker with one of those selectors and there a barney to move..

LOL there is NOOOOOOOOOOOOO way you should be dynoing on the FF mode. its only for isolating and moving with like no driveshaft.

you just have to 4wd dyno and strap the bitch down.

Hmmm, by the sounds of things toyota prevents you using the low ratio gears so you won't damage the box in FF mode, if that's true... damn they're smart.

lol you cant exceed like 30ks. and for no more than 60seconds lol thats on test rollers not dynos

Actually it's a commonly used method of dyno tuning GT4's overseas in places that don't have access to 4WD Dynos. If you couldn't exceed 30km/h Toyota wouldn't recommend that it only gets used in 3rd/4th/5th gears

It's not a good idea to use it if you don't absolutely have to but your car won't suddenly implode like people suggest.

if you actually read it like i did it will tell you and i quote...

"braking test, speedometer test, on-car wheel balancing, etc"

"never accelerate or decelerate the vehicle sudenly"

i will admit it sates "chassis dynomometer" which is generally assumed as power output testing but.... it the says "such as brake force testing and speedometer.

it does go on many times to mention that not power should be put through it.

it quite clearly describes how to do a dyno run.
seems pretty straight forward to me.

back when I first started getting into gt-fours, there was a guy in the US (can't remember his name, had a reasonably built up white st185 he called "the shuttle") who had his dyno'ed in front wheel drive mode, the company that did it didn't probably engage the selector on the transfer case and it went back into 4wd mode during a power run - the result? Completed obliterated everything inside the gearbox and jumped off the rollers (didn't do any damage to anything else I don't think), there were photos of this on the net but that was about 9-10 years ago.
