Where to get reinforced CV boots 4agze

Postby Bazda » Thu Aug 13, 2009 12:40 pm

Having a few issues with splitting CV boots on my car.
This has only been happening since I started circuit racing. Mainly issue with the inners.
Changed to a better CV grease (redline) and made a breathing hole as well, this helps but eventually the boot will fail.

I see that some companies make reinforced silicone ones for Nissans but nothing for Toyota.

Anyone know where I could get custom reinforced cv boots made?

I looked into why, heat and pressure. Thats why I used a heavy duty race grease and made a opening so it can breathe.
CVs in my car are under alot of stress, the get so damn hot. And the inner bearing wears out fairly fast.

Outers are fine. The inners get the punishing!

Might try some toyota OEM ones, i've tried all sorts of brands from repco, appco and driveline.

Motorsport wise only problems I've every really have have been in the back of Holden VE commodores, Utes seem worse than the sedan & it's only really a problem if you go way to low & run extreme driveshaft angles. In saying that Holden or someone in OZ do make competition boots which some people have used to solve the problem with sucess. So might be worthwhile checking CV/Drivehsaft angles as well. Not sure on sizing for the VE commodore boots so no idea if they'd fit.

Else you might be able to machine up a couple of spacers etc to adapt another make/model CV boot to your CV's/Axles

Gotta say, repco ones are pretty rubbish compared to Toyota OEM stuff.

I'd be trying a genuine boot too before you go searching for expensive race type boots.

Yep next time I will give the OEM toyota ones a go.

As for driveshaft angles, the angles are what they are, cant change them unless I run the car high like a jeep.

What sort of angles are they on?

We used to do boots in all the time in our old Celica,
so in the next car we raised the diff in the body to correct it,
and it fixed the problems.

In the MRS we have made it so that at ride height the axel's are all straight thru basically.

Yea a bit easier to do in a RWD, but in a FWD you would have to raise the whole engine!
The angles arent excessively bad as I dont run the car superlow.

ADL might be able to do something for you if genuine boots dont bring any joy

didnt realise OEM boots were so affordable, pity the margins are so slim from a workshops point of view
