a class rego

Postby deaf_rattle » Sun Aug 16, 2009 11:12 pm

Whats the deal with a class rego?
I hear its good for 1000kms and you dont need a wof?

So would this be suitable for use to run my supra in before taking it in for a cert?

Its for use to get to a WOF station and get repairs done for said WOF etc. never heard anything about 1000km, all the details are on the LTSA site though.

Have used it before for this use, i'd say so long as you're doing the above you'll be sweet.

no its not either of those....

its for something like a beach buggy that would can drive to the beach itself. your not supposed to exceed a certain distance of road travel at one time etc. its a loop-hole.

its actually called class EA or exempt A because it doesnt go into back pay like normal reg.

you would be better just putting your car on hold if your driving it for that long with out a wof your just asking to be pulled over. and a cops just going to sting you if you think your a clever c**t who uses EA

ontop of that its also a bastard to swap over back to A

Ok I assumed they were the same thing (I don't carry around the factsheets :P) Exempt class A / Class A, same diff

But:

LTSA wrote:Exempt Class A vehicles are:

* vehicles used on a road that is not a public highway, vehicles used on public highways only for inspection, servicing, repair or for a practical driving test. (Please note that you can only drive vehicles without a WoF or CoF on the road for the purpose of bringing the vehicle into compliance, and it must be safe to be operated for that purpose)

Its not hard to change your car to EA and its not hard to change back, just a form at the post office and about 2 minutes of your time.

I'd rather get caught with "EA" rego on my way to WOF/CERT than rego on hold. Loop hole or not I see it as making an effort to keeping it legal.

I looked into this when i was rego'ing my car.

Lady at LTSA said "You can use it going to and from a council designated area for your vehicle, ie beach buggies going to and from beach, race cars to and from track."

ive used classes A and B for years,
no idea what they are meant to be for, on;y issue ive ever had is parking wardens in rotorua,
and never had any issues changing back and forward to normal rego.

and you dont need a wof to get it. 6 months of class b is about $36

F*ck no. That is wrong in every possible way.

If your car is on the road have the right registration and have a warrant.

If you don't have a WoF, take your vehicle on a trailer, under tow, or on an a-frame.

Yeah lots of the people who work at LTSA or the post office have no idea what the different regos mean and what you can and cant use them for

no, the only reason you can drive it on the road without a WOF is for purposes of obtaining WOF.

I was taken to court over this bloody exempt class A thing that I had on my AE92. Cop didn't believe a word I was saying on the side of the road. After learning the ins and outs of the laws on this thing, I managed to win my court case.

The beach buggies and race car comment is true. This is a matter of vehicle licensing for road use, and not road fitness. "Not a public highway" means roads from your beach house to the beach. Or between stages in a rally. Driving into and across town will bring it into the "public highway" domain, in which case it must be for repair or service. It still needs a WOF to drive on any roads, unless its to get a WOF.

Another use is restoration/modification. My car was off the road for 6 months having work done, however I needed to drive it around to get things done. The car was wof'd so I was allowed on the road, but I wasn't using it for domestic purposes (regular class A) so was no point in paying arse loads for registration.
