Single out the goons for some negative attention then!

We don't want them here.

Oh well.

Goons can potentially have a lot of input though, if it isnt knowledge, its energy and money, which keeps things moving.

seriously guys, are you actually retarded.

this is an INTERNET FORUM.

its nothing more than a place where people gather to discuss a common interest.

its been proven time and time again that 99% of people that lurk on internet forums will moan about not having any events, indicate interest when something is organised , then not turn up. Other internet forums have already tried to go incorporated and msnz affiliated and failed, and then reverted back to being a free internet forum.
There might be people willing to make a committee and organise something now, but what happens in 2 years when their situation has changed and they dont have the time or interest anymore? who will replace those people?

If you seriously want to do organised motorsport events, or be involved in a more formal aspect you will most likely already be a member of a real, msnz affiliated car club. there are many members on here who actually get off their computer and do this and participate in many local events.

don't try to make this something it is not.
either go with ads to keep the site running, or request a small donation of 1$ or something per year or the site closes. I'm sures enough of us here that we could easily cover any hosting fee for a very small individual cost, and i for one would be happy to do so.

As pointed out; this isn't currently necessary (thus wondering how the idea even came to mind?!))

Idiots often have just as much money as anyone else, so that would just be a tax on the normal people. Nothing is stopping anyone getting whatever they want printed on a sticker. All of the members that ordered stickers off me were quite active on the forum and no one stood out as being known for being stupid.

In regards to some members potentially doing illegal things, we can't stop that. We are a forum that anyone is welcome to join. What we can, and do, do though is make it clear that illegal activity of any sort has no place on the forum / in the club. There is not much more we can do as anyone can go and do something stupid if they like, we just have to promote the legal side of things and moderate anything not suitable for the forum out.

Not sure where the "we need ads to pay for toyspeed" idea came about but its not something that i've heard of before. As Blakjak has mentioned, its not currently an issue.

The job of the moderators is to keep everyone in check on the forum / club in general. Also the make sure everything is running smooth. There is nothing preventing any members getting more active in there local areas at all. As has been also mentioned, events get put on, people commit to showing up, then don't. You have to view it from the point of view of the person that went to all the effort to organise the event. They do all the hard work, and all the members have to do is turn up on the day.

Its all economics, supply and demand. If the demand is there, a supplier will step up and supply the events. If demand "appears" to be there, and a supplier supplies the events to which no one ends up showing up. The supplier has wasted their efforts and is less likely to do it again. If you want events to happen, people have to be willing to get off the couch and take part.

Just as a matter of interest, did you get turned down on a request for using the Toyspeed 'brand' for an event you were organising?

Like all things, a group changes and grows, sometimes recedes. I think Toyspeed is what people make it, and when I say people.. I don't mean the mods, I mean the members. I think the moderators do a fantastic job in giving up their time to maintain the site.

As for upgrading the site, if you need a hand doing that i've got some decent experience with PHPbb and free CMS systems. Personally I wouldn't recommend moving to a CMS as its well above purpose and clutters. However a second site that is based on a similar product like PhPmyFAQ or a Wiki may not be a bad idea. However as specified it does increase the amount of management required.

Negative. I dont have any formal affiliation with toyspeed so I couldnt justify using the brand, organising events or meets.

Continue as is, Toyspeed is an Internet Forum from which some local groups have regular / sometimes get together.

If the hosting and bandwidth is covered by our gracious overlords :D , bang up a post when domain renewal time is looming prompting for donations. $5 from 8 random people once a year might just happen .. and thus its not always the mods getting landed with it. - a little pre-xmas pressy for toyspeed every year 8O

Ohh if only the post wh0res from a few years ago were still around, we could do the payment system on a per 1000 posts per month sort of scale

Did you ask?

Whilst we don't like people arranging things without our knowledge, we would at least like opportunity to consider it :-)

I'm sure from memory this comes up in one form or another every couple of years.

I like Toyspeed the way it is, a forum with lots of pretty knowledgeable people on it, and a heap more with good ideas, or the want to learn.

Sure the forum could be newer or flasher, but does it need to be? I like the idea of a wiki, and would be happy to do some combining & editing as needed. Like most people, its a time thing.

I like the fact that TS generally doesn't discriminate on the grounds of knowledge, its just about people who like Toyotas. The odd meet every now & then is good too.

I'm all for more promotion, I know a few years back we tried to do a bit of a promotion of the forums in Dunedin, if we had a flyer anyone could print out, it would be easier. Probably best to do it in the appropriate places, ie not drag trains, illegal skids etc, but when you go to a motor sport event/ car show a flyer to put on the windscreens of a few cars wouldn't be a bad idea.
I'm one of the few in Dunedin running a TS banner, but don't have the flashest/wildest car.
Perhaps more could be done to make it easier to order them, I can't remember how easy it is to get one, most areas I think would be self policing, if you saw anyone being an idiot with it on the car, wouldn't take much to rip it off & not let them get another.

there would have to be a signed statement stating they cant do silly stuff with the banner or it gets taken off, otherwise it becomes a legal matter of property damage, but yeah good idea to make them available and seen,

I just am sick of the blue to be honest, and I'd like to see a consolidated knowledge base ergo a CMS or wiki format with the forum as the mainstay.

Maybe use something like MX publisher. GT4OC.net uses a tidy CMS add on for phpBB, even if it is in blue lol.

Hmm... Seems that this has caused a bit of contraversy.

My apologies if it has done so, my intentions were genuine. It was just something I thought of to help out.

Maybe it would be a good idea if the mods locked or deleted this thread? :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
