AE101 Levin wont run properly

Postby Chris.W » Fri Sep 04, 2009 7:41 pm

Hi guys, i have a ae101 and have just changed the clutch, now i have tried to start it and it wont really fire up properly, after a few minutes of turning it over if finally would fire up but seems to be constantly missfiring. it wont go above 4500rpm and really struggles to get there, also the biggest amount of smoke ive seen comes out the exhaust, i had to keep reving it to keep it going but would die after 3-4mins. also the engine check light was on, im pretty sure that ive pluged all the plugs back in. the engine ran fine before i did the clutch.

any ideas or things i should try?

Thanks
Chris

first thing check the codes

you have prob left something unplugged, like AFM or maybe damaged a plug/wire while working on it

check the codes

check the ecu. its common with ae101s as well as some mitsis that the capacitors melt. had it happen to me in my ae101 gtz and it would randomly jump into limp mode which might be what yours is doing now. and when we ran for codes it would come up with nothing and was intermittment. it may be nothing to do with you getting the clutch replaced.

faulty or unplugged knock sensor won't cause those issues

my bad, just had error 52 come up in my ae101 today after doing a bit of driving on a rough track. bottom of car and front bumper got a hiding

googled it and the source said check knock sensor isnt loose or plug is loose. (i figured makes sense after what id been doing today)

what could be causeing knock sensor error to come up?

cheers

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_199209 ... 708.4.html

maybe that will help a little

I doubt its your problem though, it's not as hard as it first looks and they all should sort of slot back to place naturally.

Ok here what I can tell you (hard to see with that pic).
Orange is PS idle up.
Orange goes in right place.
Orange line should have a pair where it goes back to rack.
The Orange counterpart should plumb where the pink line is, meaning that Pink line ultimately will go on the steering rack.
Blue line is AC idle up.
Counter part of Blue line should go into the AFM elbow
Red is fuel return it looks like it goes to right place
Green line us purge, looks like right in the place.

Here are the pics/diagrams of air lines on silvertop
By (A) and (B) in P/S IDLE/UP I mean first and second hose from valve on steering rack (the order does not matter)..
PURGE solenoid is that green/blue solenoid just under the throttle bodies (bolted on the bracket/pipe combination where is the fuel return goes)...

Hope this makes sense.
