Question for Celsior owners

Postby DRKNYT » Mon Sep 07, 2009 1:39 pm

Hi All,

I brought a '95 Celsior about 6 months ago, and come warrant time, the tester had an issue with the way the seatbelts opperate.

I'll explain what they do below, but all I want to know is, if what they do is normal, and how they are meant to opperate.

Situation:

When the engine is off, the front seatbelts opperate as expected, extending, retracting, locking, etc. everything a seatbelt should do.

When the engine is running the front seatbels opperate as above, except once latched into the reciever, then they no longer retract, until they are undone again.
Just to clarify what I mean, once you have the seatbelt on and the engine is running, if you lean forward in the seat, and the lean back, the seatbelt does not tighten.

cant comment on whats normal for these vehicles, but it certainly doesnt sound right (or safe) do they lock if you yank them in this situation?

Nissan silvias do the same thing.... its some seatbelt brake thing to make them more comfortable... In the silvias theres a plug under the seat thats attached to the seat belt clip and if you undo that it stops it

Thanks for the feedback guys, I figured it was probably meant to do what its doing, as it is way to weird to be a fault.

I've got a similar problem on my mr2. It has those seatbelt retractors that work off the door sensor, so the seatbelt only retracts when the door is open its fking annoying

surely allowing slack to build up in a belt thats in use is just asking for people to be thrown around as if they were not wearing one.
