Recommendations for dyno run in Christchurch

rolling road dyno, lol

Want more torque?

take the 17" wheels off and put the 13" back on it
and see the torque go way up.

Best performance mod you'll ever get !!!!!

To work it out, you need tyre diameter, dyno roller diameter,
and someone way cleverer than me to work it out on a calculator.

Back to the topic of dyno's please keep us all updated with progress :) Good to see someone else spending some decent coin the right way..

Standard is 141kw@7600rpm, 181Nm@6200rpm (approx) (US is 132kw)

What's interesting as everyone says the ECU cannot be reprogrammed, yet Toyota Australia had to reflash the ECU to up the output on the Sportivo to JDM specs so it would fall into the sports car category and hence have more lenient noise criteria. :?

are you sure about that?
there was an ECU replacement done on NZ and AUS new cars that were assembled in South Africa. was probably that. That was a complete ECU replacement, not a reprogramme.
I think I toyotas new genration ECU's you can use factory tools to alter some settings

Hmm..

BWDOWN wrote:My mates 1600 civic ran 151wkw @ 8600rpm & 376nm @ 5500rpm

As long as the power is correct, torque = hp x 5252 / rpm

151wkw = 205whp

torque = 205 x 5252 / 8600 (peak power rpm)

torque = 125ft/lb, or 169nm.

So if B16A factory is 150nm, then your mate has only made around 20nm, which is a bit more realistic than 376nm!

If you do a search on ZZE123 TSB you get TSB 00207, ecu reflash, and this is the bulletin pertaining to all Toyota vehicles requiring a reprogram
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/a ... 002-07.pdf

Are you sure Warwick that they were physically removed and replaced (did you have to order any back in the day?) or was it just the way it was descibed to customers in laymans terms?

I understand that the techs only download a file that is supplied by Toyota, that their tools don't give access for writing custom tunes etc, but if it's possible to have a new file uploaded by Japan, it's possible to create your own program and upload it with the right software...

it was a recall and the ECU's were replaced
but as i mentioned with the newer generation ECU's more can be done in the way of settings, so maybe it was under that

Maybe they replaced the stock ones with one that could be reflashed?...

Wouldn't happen to have an old one floating around somewhere by chance?

Finally someone on here who knows the calculation

On that basis mines 182Nm at the crank. Isint a 4agte turbo?

Actually I think you will find it's up there ^^^^^^^^^^^ in your post :roll: .

Matt was just pointing out, that on a rolling road dyno, if you want to get a better "Torque at the Wheels" figure just use a smaller wheel/tyre.

And I would also add that you can dyno in a lower gear for the same sort of magical performance increase ;)

In other words the torque numbers quoted are a meaningless number, or rather only meaningful if you are comparing two vehicles with exactly the same gear ratio, tyre circumference, and done on the same dyno.

Don't sell yourself short, that's at peak power (as I pointed out several pages ago). Peak torque will be higher than this, but you'd need to know your HP at 6500rpm to work it out ;)
