ae101 rear wheel bearing, tone wheel?

Hey,

I was just trying to replace my rear wheel bearing as it failed a WOF.

All was well until I got the rotating hub+bearing+tone wheel off.

I saw the nut behind the tone wheel, but couldnt figure out how to get the tone wheel off. As a result it is now broken .

Does anyone know the correct way of taking them off?
And does anyine have another one floating around?

I did a search, and theres mention of them but no instruction...

tone wheel? do you mean ABS sensor?
press off usually dont they? maybe with a little heat

yeah the bit that rotates for the sensor.

i $&#$% mine anyway, looks like they're meant to press out.

Would anyone know if the lower spec levins (with drums, 5afe) have abs?
I highly doubt it, but it would bail me out a beauty...

potentially different between disc and drum ones..... not sure but i seem to recall they are. so check carefully first

I had this when I owned an AE101 GTZ.

My experience... the AE101 ABS "tone" wheel is not designed to be removed.
Toyota repair manual says to replace complete unit! $600 from memory! But check with toyota!

The problem is that the ABS tone wheel is iron and so will crack when you try to remove it to replace the bearing.

Some celicas with abs have a steel ABS tone wheel. It will not crack when you remove it (been there done that).

MAYBE you could carefully machine out the remains of the iron ABS tone wheel from your axle, replace the bearing and then press in a celica steel one (presuming it fits)

OR find a second hand AE101 ABS hub

I successfully removed ABS wheel off AE111 BZR, drilled the appropriate hole in non-ABS hub and pressed in the ABS wheel in there.

Im trying to drill it out but dont want to go to far.

hmm (re Sergeis drilling out) - so does that mean an abs rear hub (was off an ae101 levin with superstrut suspension) can be used to replace a non abs rear hub (off an ae101 levin with NON superstrut suspension)..

I've had one sitting in the garage but frankly cant be arsed replacing it due to uncertainty of them being interchangeable?

Yes in fact, it was for my mates BZR, he found some AE101 hub on pickapart (he likes to keep thing low budget ) and I had the "pleasure" of making it fit. Other than ABS it was straight bolt on.

Sergei your a legend - after removing the abs 'cog' it fitted perfectly!! awesome! - but I must say I destoryed the cog in the process...
