Leg room and MR2s

Hey

I'm quite a tall bugger, so I've never really considered purchasing an MR2. However, over the weekend I was picking up some random bits from pickapart and I had the chance to jump inside an SW20. I rekon I could fit reasonably comfortable If I made a couple of steering wheel/ seat mods. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone here has sat inside both an SW20 and AW11 - and if the AW11 had more or less driver room than the SW20?

I'm 6 foot 4 and used to own an AW11
Fit in there nice and snug. Couldn't go fitting sub boxes behind the seats like some people do though hahaha.

I felt the AW11 had more room than an SW20. The dash and other interior fittings seemed to close me in a bit more in the SW20.
I actually had much the same feeling when sitting in a Supra.
Others might feel differently though.

6 foot here had AW11 and SW20, never an issue with leg room, my seat isnt fully back either, I can push the clutch fully down with it fully back.

I'm a smidge under 6 foot, and I need to recline my AW11 seat back a little more than I'd prefer to keep my head away from the roof whilst wearing a crash helmet. On the road it is perfectly fine though. Unlike MX5's where I bash my head on the roof over every bump (hardtop = owies).

if your of bigish build, an AW11 will be tight on your legs between the door and wheel, and centre tunnel and wheel
I found it near impossible to drive with the stock huge wheel!

I'm 6'6, but pretty slim build. I think with a smaller steering wheel with an extension and some seat mods I might be ok!

Yeah, I had the same problem. My one was a targa top jobbie, so I left the inner covers off and had to sit the seat back a little more. Helmet was sitting on the glass top pretty much the whole time, so probably not the best in a crash.

i'm 6'1" and had a targa SW20 (hardtops have more headroom)

Fit fine until I put a helmet on for trackdays, and then I had to adjust the seat so as I was leaning back further than normal.

Though, i've got a long torso and comparitevely short legs , if you're the other way round should be sweet.

I have a dished wheel to allow me to sit without having my legs against the tunnel and the door, there's a chap on TM selling longer bosskits and there's one to suit MR2s. I'm 6'2" and standard seats I fit with ease, I have it on the 2nd to last click. In my other car with SW20 seats the seat sits forward a bit more so it's a bit tighter (this is the car with the dishy wheel)

An AW11 feels less cramped than an SW20. I was amazed the first time I drove and SW at how it felt smaller inside despite being a bigger car. The same goes for the passenger seat too. I'm 5'11" there's plenty of room to spare in my AW.

Hmmm I had a sit in an AW11, but I definitely can't drive it unless I do some mods. The problem is - if it's too modded, then my short mrs might not be able to drive it. This might be a real engineering challenge.

Anyone in Auckland got bucket seats + smaller steering wheel and doesn't mind me popping over for a quick 'sit in' ?

I've done exactly the same thing in my AW11, looks like the same wheel even. Nice not having your knees touch the back of the wheel when you're on and off the brakes.

I do have trouble when wearing a helmet, have to recline the seat a bit too far. I'll get around to putting some better seats in one day.

FFS we live in new zealand.... where we use the METRIC system... people are supposed to be 1.82 meters LOL not some screwy foot messurement

i have trouble in an aw11 my helmet hits the sunroof sw20 is ok tho

I'm 5'11" and I bash my head on my targa top roof on small bumps and I have to lean the seat back to fit in with a helmet.

The steering wheel is abit far away, probably because I have the seat slid back more than most people but I still have good control of the pedals.
