got a ticket for no WOF

Post by cat007 »

Ok so - last weekend (not the one just been, but the one before) I went for a WOF in the hiace - failed on both front lower ball joints.

Replaced them on Saturday just been which took longer than I thought so didn't have time to get to the WOF place for a re-check - and they weren't open on Sunday. I don't have time during the week to go to the WOF place

Then today, at a carpark in town, I go to the van after work, and I have a ticket for $200 for no WOF

I'll take a long lunch break tomorrow to get it re-checked

What do you guys think the chances of getting off the ticket if I write in and explain the situation?

Cheerio :)

Zero.

Unless you were on your way to the wof place, and the officer gave you the benefit of the doubt, no dice.

The wof was likely given out by local parking nazis who have extended powers to ticket for no wof and no licence, aaaannnnnnnd they have targets to meet, and profits to make.

You had no wof at the time so no chance getting out of it

similar thing happend to me recently. Paid for my rego online with credit card, but didnt receive the rego label until a week after I paid. I had an invoice saying I had paid my registration fees on 22/8/09 but the ticket for no rego was on 26/8/09.

Just pay the fine :)

pretty good, ive had that happen a number of times for warrant or rego being out by 2 weeks or so, what i do is get new wof or rego and go to the place you pay the fine, in my case whakatane district council.

show proof of getting wof or rego and explain situation, works a charm

i have 100% success rate of getting off fine as id genuinly forgot to get a rego or wof and was only a couple days or weeks over

mate, give it a shot, but don't expect miracles.
send in a copy of the failed WOF sheet, as the date will precede the date of the ticket, then explain you were at the mall checking the bank balance to buy the parts you replaced.

Pretty much - now instead of just giving towies shit and making their day harder than it would normally be - now I have another bunch of pricks to hassle :P

I'll write a decent letter tomorrow and send copies of the failed WOF sheet and the also completed passed WOF sheet

Maybe if I'm nice enough

I'm pretty sure theres an allowance time if you fail a WOF to get the car WOF worthy isn't there?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

28 days - but that's only so you don't have to pay to get a re-check

Yip, 28 days to get it repaired and rechecked for the repairs. Otherwise it requires a new wof inspection

don't post a letter thats to impersonal. go into the council offices that issued the ticket and show you got wof next day after fixing. face to face its hard for someone to resist letting you off a $200 fine for not having enough time to get a wof (all been there) but someone sitting opening mail at a desk (how boring would that be!) no compassion

i was of the belief that parking wardens can only overturn parking offences, not stationary vehicle offences???

Nah, they can do it also for No WoF/ Rego, etc as well, although I do recall a news article somewhere about someone questioning that...

As for the ticket, it depends where you are- Wellington? Shit outta luck; Hawkes Bay, good chance it will be remitted. Above advice is pretty good though- they will make you send in a letter anyway, but if you get your WoF certs together with the receipts for what you got repaired, you should be good. When you go to see them, don;t forget to smile! :D

Just take a copy of each wof sheet - make sure they have dates and you should have a chance at getting off it.

What a strange thing to say.

Why would someone just want to throw money away for no good reason?

If there's a chance of getting out of it on account of writing a 5 minute letter, then damn well do so! And what ever else it takes.

I got ticketed for no rego no wof after failing a wof on my car which had the rego on hold while i was rebuilding it.

I wrote a lovely letter explaining my reason behind it, copied my failed wof sheet which had the date etc on it and got off both. If you approach it in a diplomatic manner you might have a chance.

Good luck. I kept my 2 letters from the council wiping my two $200 tickets :D Rather the $400 in my pocket than theirs

Not so sure you'll get off.

I think its been the attitude that its you're responsibility to sort WOF / REGO out before it expires or so I've heard through the grapevine these days.

It use to be - provide evidence of REGO /WOF up to two weeks later and they (Council / coppers) would let you off.

The way people grab at money these days I'd be suprised if they let you off but you never know.

Anyways let us know how you get on 8)

I think if you give a full description of the sequence of events (on paper) and provide evidence where possible, WOF sheets, reciept for ball joints etc. They should let you off.
It would be pretty mean if they didn't.
