That's pretty much the point I'm trying to make...Yes D2 supply them with springs but they are far too harsh for *most* cars. With springs that heavy the shock is barely doing any work and all the force is just being transferred to the strut body...I think the first thing anyone should do when they get them is get a decent set of springs to replace the ones they ship with. As for being lucky...I'd probably have put it down to that if I hadn't owned 3 different cars all with the same coilovers and all with no trouble whatsoever...I guess I must just be one lucky person.

But when you spending $1250 on coilovers (How much do they sell XYZ and D2 for these days) and then have to shell out and extra $400 to get decent rate spring wouldnt have been better to jsut spend the extra and buy a decent quailty product in the first place?

As by then you have spend $1650 and surely with that kind of money you could definatly get somthing thats not totally at the bottom of the range of coil over pickings

End of the day you get what you pay for same as chinese turbos, cheap nasty waste gates, any knock off parts, you are not paying top dollar so don't expect the same results as a $$$$$$ product

Righty, well all of these 'lower end' coilover kits seem to be 'kind of the same', which harsh valving using in the struts.

I have sets of 'barrys suspension' (aka something else they are called now), only thing I can fault (and DID!) was the alloy hubs, which were replaced with steel ones, and once the oval holes are welded up to make tighty round ones, they have been great for the track car.

So really all that is needed is a checklist, when buying coilovers:
Does the spring rate matches car type and weight
Is the hub attachment alloy or steel (!!)
Do the locking rings, actually lock!
Do the springs match the max suspension travel.

nothing at all wrong with alloy parts
as long as they are designed right and made of the right spec material

$1650 isn't going to get you much more than D2's and maybe BC's (which while they ARE better certainly aren't much higher on the ladder). You definitely get what you pay for with car parts. But at the same time expensive isn't always better :) For most cars you can't beat a good koni damper adjustable shock with a properly matched set of springs - hell they do a good job on the nzv8 racecar I work on and they cost a hell of a lot less than $1600. Food for thought

lets be honest the real attraction of the likes of D2 is the ability to slam a car without spending ages / $$$ $&#$% around trying to find the right shock and spring combo

super hard does not equal good, as rev mentioned massive spring rates to hide poor quality shocks

This man speaks the truth.

D2's are really popular with the honduh crowd too.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
