Ignition Leads WTF!!!!

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Sun Oct 11, 2009 7:37 pm

So last night a hose in my car split and spewed all the water/coolant out, the temp gauge started to go over half so i stopped and found some water and let it cool down, this didnt work so i towed it home. fixed the hose today filled it up with water and now it wont fire up, tried to take the leads out to see if they had any spark but they are stuck in there some how. managed to get 1 out and SUPRISE!!!!!!!!!!

meltdown

Postby fxgt race » Sun Oct 11, 2009 7:50 pm

Best you chip at what is left on the spark plug with a screw drive and hook a hose to a vacum cleaner that will fit down the spark plug hole to suck out the crap. A new leed and she be sweet.

It's melted because it overheated.

Are those genuine Toyota leads?

over heat

Postby fxgt race » Sun Oct 11, 2009 8:16 pm

If the temp gauge was only just over halve way when you stopped it should be ok , so hopefully the engine will be fine. check water in oil etc, put new leads on and give it ago

Thought so, genuine leads have rubber feet so they don't melt is situations like that. ;)

The condition of your plug leads says that it did.

Temperature sensors only really work properly when the're immersed in coolant, when it's just vapour they take a lot longer to react so the head would be a lot hotter than the gauge indicated.

Probably not, most of the melting would have occured after you shut the engine off as there was no coolant circulating to carry the heat away.

Worst that is likely to happen would be that the head has gone soft, but even that is unlikely.

tip engine upside down? Just get some mates together, get them to all grab the same side of the car, and lift. Problem solvered.
