you all seem aware that the system doesn't work in many instances, I would have thought if you were in a position where you can't afford to lose an income then it would be common sense.
Its come in useful a few times for me. although it does irritate me somewhat that you can't rely on the state provided system to look after you, you should be able to choose to forgo all acc levies in lieu of private insurance.

unfortunalty, like many commision salespeople, i thought i had private cover. the crooked prick never actually signed anything off, and must deposited my premiums into a personal holding account, not the company holding account. once he got wind of the first shoulder injury, the rejection of insurance cover letter came, with the money i had deposited.

tvnz, electricity company's, acc, income support, all have had really bad fcuk ups in the last few years, yet heads didn't get chop,

here's hoping that John WILL get the axe out

The problem is, is that if John and co do get the axe out, trim back and fix all the prolific wastage and spending of the past governments, someone is going to lose out, then all the left wing idealistic morons will throw their toys and vote Labour back in, its just a cycle.

Remember earlier this year when there was talk of privatising ACC, and all these retards had a cry about it? Well do you think a privatised ACC would go around losing sums of money like this? I dont bloody think so. Half the middle management idiots who do SFA would lose their jobs, people would have 5 sick days a year like all us normal people, people would work for a normal salary and upper management wouldnt be paying themselves huge bonuses when the company was making the biggest loss in NZ history.

Medical should be privatised, even if it was compulsary but you had the choice of several private companies.

95% sure that a medical exam at a&e does cost. (less than dr, and even less with a community services card)

It's much cheaper for me (working in aussie) to have private health cover at around $900/year than pay the $2200 medicare levy. Pity i didn't listen to my tax man last year.. oh well...

Medicare levy in OZ costs 1 percent of your earnings if you earn over 100k.

I'm not sure, I've only ever used A&E when I've split my head open or something equally retarded.

Was going to disagree but then saw you said "fully"

Agree with this to a certain extent, but reducing coverage too much is only really going to discourage people form participating sport, and IMO that would be worse than banning bullrush. (that was a sad day).
I remember before labour came in that there were surcharges on physio treatments etc which makes way more sense than what the system is at the moment.

I don't believe that health issues that are related to smoking should be covered (whether its by ACC or not) but thats my opinion too I guess.

the thing that has always F#$$%# me right off, someone can have a very low risk job, pay next to no ACC earner premiums, but can participate in some of the more injury causing sports (Moto-x, rugby, skiing etc) and get full cover, but someone who works in a hi-risk job, pays massive earner premium, dosn't get any cover??

Can't say I know of anyone who's had an easy time actually finding a use for Income Protection when it's come to claim time. They'll make you jump through as many hoops as they can before you'll ever see a dime.

Totally agree, not that sports injuries shouldn't be covered, but that work related ones should be fully covered. I would have thought the brains trust would relaise that getting people back to work and actually improving the economy is better than slapping them on a sickness benefit and hoping the problem fixes itself.

hmm, depends on how good your policy is i guess.

I had a claim under my business interuption policy and it was paid out reasonably quickly.

The thing I have learned with insurance is be very sure on what you are covered for and if there is any grey areas sort them out BEFORE you need them.

maybe there needs to be a premium added to every sports participant, with a scale of risk, injury severity, and time off work.

it cracks me up that when applying to get health/income protection/life insurances, they still rate auto-racing as an either no-go, or extremely high risk :?:

Also ACC should not cover fully smokers and alcohol related damage.
Add ACC tax on alcohol and tobacco, make all other mild drugs legal and put ACC tax on them as well, that should cover the loss.

+1 for smoking

I think that if you smoke you should pay for the extra strain you WILL put on the health system
