20valve bogging down on hard throtle ....

Postby FLESHAXXE » Thu Oct 08, 2009 5:08 am

Recently my 20v levin has been idleing between 1100-780rpm.....during normal driving it's ok but as soon as I go hard on the throtle it is "bogging down" like if it's starving for fuel.....I have tried a gas treatment by Prestone recently and this has not helped....I was also using shell gas ....is anyone familar with this problem....Thanks..

Try searching 20v hesitating, some blacktops seem to suffer from it.

Potentially a O2 or knock sensor issue, which are common problems that cause this. Have you checked the fault codes?

on side note vpower is such a joke, I wouldn't ever put in a ferrari if I had one. It is same regular 95, has nothing special about it.

Try using 98, and see if it helps.

Your best bet would be to hook up a voltmeter to the oxy sensor and take a note of what readings you get Is the back of the car sooty looking?

Have a look through my posting. It has a number of different things you could look at, my problem ended up being a failing fuel pump that couldnt hold pressure reliably.

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?p=744698#744698

It's likely it will boil down to one/some of these being the cause but always check for trouble codes first as that can tell you almost straight away if its a sensor thats at fault.

In no order of preference.....

1) Worn Distributor rotor or cap.
2) Air Flow meter (ST) or MAP Sensor (BT)
3) O2 sensor.
4) Water temp sensor.
5) Faulty ECU - quite common for capacitors to leak.
6) Fuel related issue i.e. clogged filter, fuel pressure (pump), injectors etc
7) Broken or faulty plug leads and/or plugs.
8. Starter signal wire to ECU.
9) Vaccuum leak.
10) Faulty ignitor or coil.
11) Bad earth.
12) Timing is wrong or belt has jumped a tooth.
Behold the mighty SN1FTR.
