Though looking at the bearing with the wear in that one point in what I assume is the conrod journal bearing - does point to detonation?

Thanks for the misquote.

Too much timing causes detonation
Detonation causes damaged pistons
and damaged bearings
and blown headgaskets.

It also looks to me like it's quite a high milage motor as there is only a small contact area , as wear increases the bearing gets looser, contact area gets smaller (normally filled with oil), Bearing damage is more likely with high load.

So how many KKKs has it done?

Those bearings look about ready to spin. Definatley worn out.
