DIY Rev limiter

Postby chrisarmo86 » Fri Oct 16, 2009 3:56 pm

Found this while i was looking for some diy projects, really want to make one now. Have googled like crazy but cant find a tutorial or schematic anywhere. Anyone know a thing or two? I just want a basic rev limiter that runs off a shiftlight, hooked up to a relay that grounds the coil. And no, I dont want a bought one :)

remember that relays are slow, thus the limiter is going to be interesting to say the least, not missing every other injection pulse / ignition pulse.

rev spark, rev spark, rev limit flood, no spark flood, rev spark, rev limit flood

Jaycar used to make a kit, I tried to make it but had no idea what I was doing and it didn't work, was doing it in hopes of using it as launch control too.

Just wire it up simple as, shift light output to trip a relay to cut power to the coil. The ones I used were with $30 tachos and worked really well. Limit very cleanly when in neutral and cut in quite soft up in the revs. Plus there is the added factor of them being adjustable whenever you wanted to

Good thing with the tachos I used were that you could fit a relay inside the unit itself, still have the shift light work and still have it as a 4 wire unit. Just ground one wire to the body and have a single run of 3 core wire to the coil. Made for a clean install too as the only wiring you'd see would be one run to the top of the coil
