1jz swap questions

Postby illdrift » Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:32 pm

Swapping to a rear sump vvti 1jz + v160 gearbox and i have a few questions.

1) Any big forums that are recommend to search first? Something like what rx7club is for rotaries.

2) Is there some sort of brass plate that goes between the engine and gearbox, similar to what you see on Nissan RB engines?
If not then i'll go ahead and start on the gbox mount

3) I have 2 identical starter motors, both from a supra 2jz/v160 setup. I don't quite see how i'm meant to connect the starter. Does the stock supra starter motor attach on the engine side? (And therefore won't work on the 1jz?). I'll be using the stock 2jz v160 flywheel and clutch for the time being

4) Driveshaft flange. I've heard these can be brought new from Toyota? Or are there other Toyota gearboxes that share the same flange? (Not like i'm going to be able to pick up a v160 driveshaft for a reasonable price)

5) Wiring diagram? :P. Though i'm sure i can find it if i google hard enough. Also any other possible wiring problems i might encounter? Like an 'inhibitor switch' or whatever the name is that fools an auto computer into believing the gearbox is in Park.

Thanks :D

2) - No stupid brass plate with Toyotas
3) - Starter goes on the engine side and 2 long 14mm bolts connect through the bellhousing to it. Should attach a grounding strap to one of these bolts.

5) - VVTI motor diagrams are hard to find! If I was you I'd go for an aftermarket ECU to make life simple and allow for tuning later on.

Good luck with what sounds like an awesome swap mate!!

Thanks, i ran the 13b with a link g4 and the software is amazing, but i want to stick with the stock computer on the 1jz if i can, for simplicity and fuel economy.
