Helmets

Postby B_giB » Wed Dec 09, 2009 1:28 pm

A work colleague is looking at racing at Meremere this week.

He has purchased a used Helmet.

Now my question is, Do they have an "expiry" date? This Helmet is 6 years old.

Would the scruitneers decline him for it being 6 years old?

Schedule A S4.1 6 (c) of the motorsport regs recomends that "helmets should be replaced at least every 7 years" so he should be right.

Once I (stupidly) took a whiff of a helmet at a go karting place.

Almost vomited.

this is purely a reccomemdation, If you have a new helmet that has been sitting in the cupboard for 7 years I wouldnt throw it out.

It depends on the overall condition of the helmet and if it meets an approved standard but drag racing would probably have their own helmet standards that they go by
