Caldina GTT questions

Postby madaz-gtt » Tue Dec 15, 2009 9:22 am

Hi guys,

Im new to this forum and im hoping someone here can help me out with a couple of questions i have.
Ive just brought a caldina gtt and want to install a boost tap on it, when i was looking at the stock wastegate i see they run two pressure sources almost like an aftermarket one, which line do i run the tap on? the line that runs from the turbo to the side of the wastegate or the other that runs from the top to im guessing the intake?
Also whats the maximum boost the car can handle safely with only a 3" exhaust and pod filter? i was thinking 12psi?

any help would be much appreciated.

cheers

12psi should be fine, they usually run 12-14psi factory. Dont put it up any more then 14psi if you dont want to buy a new motor :-)

Stock boost, so why bother with a boost tap ;)
i was thinking 12psi?

Which is the stock boost level.

Boost guage should be the first thing you get

cool thanks for your help. ill prob run 14 if it can handle it then ill see how i go. ive got a boost guage already and it reads ruflly 11, wanted to put the tap in to make a bit more consistant.

so you reckon it is the pipe between the turbo and gate? makes sense just needed to be sure.

another question i had was when its idling i can hear a fan ticking noise coming from behind the glove box where the Ac and heater system is, it goes away when i rev but its damn annoying to listen to, anyone got any ideas what it could be or how to fix it?

cheers

try listening to your BOV (bolts into airbox) quite common for these to tick on idle when it is working as a turbo bypass valve

if you stick a boost tap on it, keep this number handy, 0800 100 494. and call me when your engine blows (not if), and i'll suss you out a deal on a replacement.

otherwise leave it at std boost level.

yea ive figured the ticking noise is the vacuum hose that hooks into my boost guage, when removed the noise goes. replaced the pipe and the noise comes back. ive got a hks squential bov installed which is run off a T piece with the bov, could this cause the ticking noise?
i was thinking the hose could be split but unlikely for it to happen twice.

haha cheers for the number had a bit of bad luck with the car, currently getting the front axles replaced so i think ill be leaving it all stock.

anyone in auckland no of a good wrecker where i can get some good condition door trims?

cheers guys

welcome to the forums

a boost tap is not going to give you a more stable boost pressure. It will just make it works.

Get a proper electronic boost controller and DON'T run it over 14psi unless you've got a spare 3S handy?

cheers yea ill be leaving the boost alone now.

is there any common faults with the gearboxes in theses? mines started making a clicking sound when driving in a straight line. ive taken it to adl thinking it was the cvs or axle. he did some work to the axle and said the cvs are fine and that its prob the box / transfer case. any ideas what it could be?

anyone know a good toyota mechanic in auckland?

cheers
