Is 150,000km too much for Aristo V300?

Postby Crampy » Mon Nov 30, 2009 10:19 pm

Hi all.
After getting delayed somewhat with my finances, it seems the market for Aristo's has now dried up all of a sudden.
So, I can get either a stock as N/A one for about 10g, or there is a turbo Vertex V300 one for around $17g. The turbo has done over 153,000km now.

So, I suppose the question is.... is it worth it?
Do these motors like to put on kms? I had a FXGT that had over 300,000km and it was still going strong. Is the 2JZ the new Bluetop 4AGE?

The owner uses Mobil 1 oil all the time and after checking on Carjam it seems to be used quite a bit, so my guess would be longer trips. So, that's a good thing in my books. Short trips, stop start driving is no good for a big car.

There are a few things I'm not sure about with it however:

1/ It's been used for towing. How is this going to affect the trans? Are they strong enough to handle this, or is it something to be worried about? Do they need trans coolers, regular servicing to keep them good etc?

2/ It has D2 adjustables in it. I HATE D2s!!! Fine, some people like to go super low, but not me. Are they adjustable enough to give back a decent ride quality (height and dampening) bearing in mind it also has 19s as well, or better to biff them for something nice; Bilstein, Koni, TEIN?

3/ I has a boost cut defender in it, which suggests higher boost than standard. I know the turbos start having a bad time over 14psi, so is that going to be a problem? It does have a FMIC, which is good for the motor, but doesn't do anything to help the turbos.

Thoughts/discussion on any of that stuff would be much appreciated.
Cheers in advance.

If you are that concerned about that much stuff I would wait for the right aristo to come along.

Yeah that is true.
The problem is they can't be imported anymore, so not many of them around. Can't say I've ever seen one in person or driving around. I've seen a GS300 and I liked the shape a lot. I emailed Croydons and they said it'll be hard work finding one.

The ones I wanted (the Blue one with 20s on Trademe and the Black one with god awful mags also on trademe) have since gone. They both had leather interior 8) and were low kms, under 100,000km. Didn't care much for the mags on either of them though. Easily changed.

Now that I finally have my finance sorted, I want to buy before I'm $hit out of luck with finding one.

Na, don't think it was TTE. It was a V300 Vertex version though.
Looked really nice and I'd been in contact with the owner. He got a good offer so let it go, which is fair enough. I'm pi$$ed at the company I'm getting the money out of, as it's taken so damn long to free up MY money!!!

Could be tricky though, unless Aristos have had mention in the magazines mentioned

the a341e trans are bullet proof, wont hurt to run a cooler on it, and i do recomend the oem toyota trans fulid,

alot of the jz pple i know seam to cry and whinge about about 100,000k service which is basicly cam belts to water pumps no biggy, really
plus the water pumps on both vvt-i 1jz and 2jz are the same, so tnz has them ex the shelf, alot of the parts are the same

turbos i wouldnt really worry about, whip the intale pipe of and have a check, i have found with ( the 1jzgte vvt-i ones anyway ) that the std by pass valve seams to be the cause of turbo issue's
again wouldnt worry to much

a twwwwoooo jaaaayyy zzzzz nut may want to clear some more issues up abit more than what i can

I'm loving these V300's at the moment, would consider one myself if I was staying in NZ... Seen that white one on trademe, the guy seems to have looked after it and knows what he is talking about, but I think the kms would be an issue for me too.

There is a green one which has been relisted on TM as of today, has lower kms but is 20K which is too much for it IMO. Also has a slightly questionable history on carjam, imported in 01 but not got plates till 05 :? and has weird mileage activity between a few inspections, but is probably more suitable for what you are looking for.

It does look very very nice :o

Would go as far as saying almost one of a kind with that mileage, not something your likely to see again with the import laws.

Someone buy it!!!!
