Kelford 193-B 4AGE "Rally" Cams...

Anyone running these cams (284/278 advertised) in a road car ??

Just trying to figure if they would be a good choice for a weekend
car that would see a bit of club sport tracktime. Gotta be fully driveable
on the road, and I'm interested in knowing how well they work in the
2500 to 6000 rpm range. Would be running in a stock smallport engine
with quads and a standalone.

i ran some 280's in my old smallport with a link
had also been ported with high compression and few other bits and bobs
It didnt make full power till around 4.5k but had power to 9k

I used this engine as a road car and never had any problems

it might not retain factory like driveability, but what it lacks in that, it will more than make up for on the fun-o-meter.

wont loose much driveability with them. had pretty much same setup for awhile. they were similar if not the same cams. went bigger in the end as i found them a bit boring tbh. but car isnt a daily

Fair enough. I picked on these as this engine hasn't been opened, and
I think I'd probably need to up the compression if I went any bigger.
Plus, I like an engine with a strong bottom end, and don't want to finish
up with an engine that doesn't do anything under 4000 rpm.

Maybe 272's would be a better choice ?? Any opinions ??

4ages do something under 4k?

cams are only one part of the deal anyway. extractors, intake lengths, cam timing will all effect where power is made.

they will probably be fine for what you want to do. dont expect any huge gains though. you need to change the valve springs with those cams also. so may as well skim the head or trd gasket at least. watch the piston to valve clearances also

I have cams with around 260 deg (advertised) duration in there at the
moment. They pull a bit harder than stock from idle, and make useful
torque from around 3000 rpm. Its no V8, but you're not downshifting
all the time to stay in the power band.

I think I'll stay with these until I have to pull the head, and then I'll up
the compression and go with the 280's. Thanks for your input.
