ae86/kp60 brakes

Postby Boost_4_Life » Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:26 pm

I've got ae86 brakes on the front of the starlet, nissan p10 on the rear. just wondering if theres any twin pot calipers that will fit the ae86 disc. i tried some ae111 calipers with nissan r32 discs. bolt straight up (except caliper mounts obviously) but wont fit under the 14" wheels :(

anyone done simple brake upgrades for these? I think the disc size is 238ish?mm at the moment? I want to try and get twin pots on the front, as its single atm and needs more bite. as far as i can tell its just standard ae86 disc and caliper... correct me if not, i can only go off whats on the car..

would think you'd be better off going to a bigger rotor than worrying about twin pots.

i run a 260mm peugeot rotor an just some single pot gt starlet calipers. fits under 14" rims easy. was a bit of messing around to get them to fit from memory so probably not the easyest option

hilux twins + pug rotors , machined to pattern , RX7 calipers have been used , Ive sen Commodore brakes on similar struts with a kit from OZ ..

havent seen the bluebird ones - but seeing silvia strits can be used in an Ae86 and ma61 supra with a few changes - i wouldnt be surprised if you couild open up all the skyline 2pot and 4pot setups too

thats the one. ok seems like there are a few options. Its not an ideal setup at the moment, the rears are bigger than the front. the whole system isnt working all that efficiently.

i just wanna know if 14" wheels will still fit with the above setup ^

they should do. im in the process of putting the 257mm blubird rotors on my starlet with ae111 twinpots. they clear with 5mm or so on 14" wheels

i done this mod to my old race starship
used twin pots off a turbo sw20 etc and u13 disc's
i didnt use hilux studs tho, i got some ex repco that where 2mm shorter and they done the trick

there was a dude on trade me, and i beleave he was also on club-k who mad up his own adabtor plates that allowed you to run with the std kp strut and use the bigger disc's and calipers

14" wheels bolt up nicely my work ewings did anyway ( they came off a ae86 track car )

i also herd a rumor that you can use s14 non abs brake master cyl on the kp brake booster, as they have a brake bais adjust dail from factory in them
weather or not this is true i dont know i never really looked into it

man i wish i still had that car

hmm i just had another look and it seems to vary with different wheels.

one set clears just, not 5mm, more like 3mm.

the other two sets of 14" didnt fit. one was mags the other was steel wheels.

so maybe if you want to gaurantee a fit youd have to go to a 250mm rotor.
the only problem i see with that is the pad wont fully contact a smaller rotor than ~260mm. well more specifically it wont using a rotor that fits over the hub on the wheel studs. if you modded a rotor to fit by bolting to the rear of the hub like a standard one you could get more pad area.

also a twin pot caliper isn't really bigger than a big single pot.

wow
massive mind refresh

yip sorry i didnt use the u13 rotors, i used 250mm rotors like burning angel just stated ( i think they where p10 or p11 disc's wish i still had all my old inv's for the bulid )

you you have to get your hubs machined on the out side dia
this verrys from hub to hub too
one of my hubs was 3mm other was 1mm

yea ive gotta machine my hubs but because theyre gx60 ones i have to take 17mm off the diameter lol, also the bluebird rotors have a good offset leaving room for an adaptor plate to fit the bigger calipers and are nice and beefy (22mm thick) the TRW part# for the rotors is DF2591S.
some u13 rotors are smaller, you want the ones off an sr18/20 powered one.

funnily enough these are the same rotors as some non turbo s14's (facelift i think)

i'm running p10 or p11 (unsure) ~257mm on the rear which is interesting...
machining etc isnt a problem to get done for any mods. I'm under the impression twin pots are just going to work much better.. better pressure spread across the pad etc.. ? I'm running a willwood pedal box with individual f/r tilton cylinders (cant remember size). and no booster.

so maybe p10/11 disc with sw20 caliper? ill try my rear with the ae111 front caliper just for measurement sake to see if they'll fit inside the wheel better.

maybe i should just bite the bullet and get fancy lightweight low profile wilwood calipers
