I suppose it depends on the Amp and what output it has but generally speaking yes, you can run components through an amp and they usually are run this way as you generally get better sound as headunits have a basic sound output/level.

Yeh, aslong as it's not a big power monoblock haha.

My Fusions(lomus) are run through a DLS CA23(230rms 2 channel), good power and mental bass as well for little speakers

Do it.
I never run any speakers off the headunit. Amps are way better.
I can turn the internal amp off on my headunit too, so it doesn't heat it up too much, good little feature

fancy gear, the sound coming from that would be mean  .

I set mine up on a budget with an fp402 powerplant amp and some kevlar jaycar response components.

I turn my internal amp off too, head unit amps are useless.

They sure are. They'll usually be clipping before the preout voltage is at it's max.

So, I turn off the internal amp, run the volume higher than normal and leave the gain on the external amp nice and low.

Goes mint.

haha, thats what I do too, only put the gain on the external amp about 1 or 1.5volts below the head unit pre out voltage.
