What 4AGE do i have?

Postby metal_sean_head » Mon Dec 21, 2009 9:45 pm

I have a 89 FXGT AE92 corolla. Just wondering what sort of 4AGE i have. (blue top...) As i have been hearing conrtadicting statements. To my knowledge it is a bluetop. It has TVIS? Please dont say look at the rocker cover as it has been painted.

Thanks.

Sorry to sound noob.

Thats what the code says on the fire wall that it is an AE92. I wasn't aware of the redtop having TVIS?

No, May 89 was changeover to smallport.

It will be bigport Redtop, and all bigport's have Tvis so it will have that too.

It will have a red dist cap with the leads coming out in a V shape.

change over from the bigport tvis redtop to redtop smallport was mid 1989 afaik. I used to have a 1990 corolla GT sedan with a smallport from the factory and have seen 1989 smallport fxgt's aswel :) . id much rather the smallport over a redtop tvis anyday!

s'not true, smallports are sans TVIS

to the OP, the easiest way to tell is to check out the inlet manifold. if it has a badge saying TVIS, you have a bigport redtop. if it doesnt, then rejoice! you have the greatest 16v 4age ever made. (smallport)

higer comp, more power and generally just better.
Bigports have ports that are way too big for a NA 1600.

smallport wins

20v's have even smaller inlet ports and make even more power n/a or turbo.
