What is the diff ratio on a standard AE86 and AE85?

Postby matt dunn » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:42 pm

Anyone know what the standard diff ratio is on an AE86 from factory,

or diff code from a build plate and I can work it out.

4.1 and 4.3 depending on the model, gtapex was the 4.1 and gtv was 4.3 i think, the three apex diffs ive had have been 4.1 and the one gtv was 4.3
all looked as if they have never been cracked open, if i can find my build plates i'll post them,

So that would mean there are probably different speedo drive gears available?

were there different series ae85 diffs?

I have two diff heads out of ae85s - no idea exactly what model/year, just know they're from an ae85.
pretty sure they're both different ratios, I can count the teeth on them if you want?

Yeah if you could. may be keen to buy one if there's one somewhere near the AE86 ratio's.

mine is a 3.73 according to the build plate. S302 code.

two p/ns there

if you can get a proper copy of the genuine EPC you could use the match off function to look for other options

Yep, there are. As far as I know you need to replace the metal drive gear that is splined to the output shaft and the drive assembly that holds the plastic gear.

Mine is 3.73 too. Just remembered the other diff head was in my car when I sold it... That one made my speedo about 10km faster (at 100kmh) from memory though.

The one I've still got is completely pulled apart and has a couple of teeth missing too. Gonna chuck it though, so if you did want anything let me know.
